The first few scenes were a crazy burlesque and I almost shut it down, but the film develops into a gloomy & bleak portrait of the the Art scene in Paris at the early part of the 20th century; with Riccardo Scamarcio as 'Modigliani', Al Pacino in a small role and directed by Johnny Depp (he's not an actor  in the film). It's set in Paris under seige during WWI and profiles three early 20th century artists, Amedeo Modigliani, Maurice Utrillo, Chaim Soutine.
