It's a strange subject for a 'comedy/satire' and highlights the difficulty of making a funny movie with universal appeal. Something very specific to South Koreans doesn't carry over too well, although this one was close. Reading about the real incident I learned that much of the movie was true. Authorities really did land the plane in South Korea and convinced the hijackers that they were in North Korea. Set in the early 1800's, an itinerant Chinaman and an unemployed baker sell campfire bake goods to trappers and miners in the Oregon Territories. In order to make the cakes they have to steal milk from The Captain's cow. They flee the village and possibly they are murdered in their sleep. The movie opens with two skeletons in a shallow grave in the woods and maybe that was them? I remember seeing a documentary about this weird German media super-story about 'the fall from paradise' that occurred during the 1930's; with Jude law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Bruhl. An Australian woman in a troubled marriage goes on a solo road trip to the beach. In the small town she sees her husband with a much younger man. She thinks it's his gay lover, but it's actually his son, although she doesn't find out until after she's had sex with the young man. And, much later, she learns that she's pregnant. Strangest yet... 1) A few teenage Iranian girls from a very isolated mountain village fake an on-camera suicide because the villagers feel that their dreams of freedom were 'empty-headed'; 2) An old & ignorant man believes that if he buries the foreskin of his adult son on the campus of a university his boy will become a doctor or an engineer. The film's disturbing message is the fact that there are people living in contemporary times that believe and think like people from the Bronze Age.
