Mo 9/10/18- Confrontation on the front lawn
Up 845am; bright, sunny, and cheery, but I feel like re-fried death. This Summer Cold has really kicked in; temps to upper 70's.
I watched a couple of episodes of 'JACK RYAN' (Amazon Prime). I got a call from Peggy saying that she had a problem with her son, and wouldn't be able to start on the landscaping until one or two this afternoon.
She does good work, and she might pull it out, but I'm only partially convinced.
I wrote a long email to Janny about yesterday's events, and I might try to mow the back lawn before Peggy arrives. It hinges on if the grass is dry enough to be cut.
1pm- I'm venturing out to check the scene, and the lawn was plenty dry, so I mowed the front and back.
I finished the lawn and I got a vaguely threatening call from Kenny. He said that he'd be right over 'with four witnesses' and he was upset that 'You told Peggy that I didn't want him on the job'. He, Peggy, his six year old son, and a woman probably in her 80's (The Four Witnesses?) pulled up in about fifteen minutes. He wasn't any more angry than usual, and he did 'kind of apologize' for acting like a 'dickhead' (his words). I told them that it would be perfectly fine to pay them for work done, and if he didn't want to work for me that's OK. I told him that I'd give them another check for fifty. I gave them one hundred total, and I think he wanted $150, but there's no way that they did even close to a third of the total job. They received a much more generous payment than they deserved.
I later finished the whole front lawn in less than twenty minutes. I'm afraid Peggy would have spent hours on the same project.
While I was waiting for 'The Landscaping Mafia' to show, I noticed that the lawn crew for the neighbors across the street had pulled in for the weekly lawn work. I asked them if they would give me an estimate on what I needed. The two guys looked at the back yard and said they could do it all for two hundred. I'll take it, and just looking at these two I have much more confidence in them than I ever did in Peggy and Kenny.
330pm to the 'Y' in the Accord. 45" Walk (Reality TV All Workout). 45" Recumbent Bike. 45" Cross. 30" Bike. 30" Cross. I spent ten minutes in the steam room and it was really roaring. The best ten minutes I've felt all day.
Home to watch episode 2 of season 2 of 'OZARK'. Then a 'NETFLIX EXPLAINED'- the reality between the male and female wage gap; then, 'political correctness' -Netflix Explained. 18"segments.
