Sa 10/13/18- The Last Day

The phone alarm was set for 4am, but I got up at 3am. I was very concerned about finding the car rental return, and I opened the chromebook to re-study the map.

I had about a half cup of coffee from the room coffee maker, and I checked ou at 350am.

As I was walking to the car, it started to sprinkle. Some rain on the drive to Sky Harbor, but nothing to speak of. No traffic, and I drove directly to the car rental return without any incidents. 402am out of the parking lot at Alaska USA.

Stay on Rt. 17, and be sure to get off at Exit 195 A. This is 16th St, and take a left at the light. A couple of lights, and then a right on Buckeye, then another right on Sky Harbor. The brown 'Car Rental Returns' were very helpful, but when I got to the parking garage that had 'Fox' it was not too well marked. The signs (there are a half dozen car rental places in this area) are small and not too well placed.

When I finally found 'Fox Returns' a guy walked over and waved me over to the drop-off. He checked the car, and I guess it came back OK. They will send me an email. While I was getting the backpack out of the front seat I knocked my small red notebook and the cell phone under the front seats. It took me a while to find them. I came so close to forgetting the phone because I was mainly concerned about
the notebook.

When I got upstairs I got on the wrong bus. I thought that they all went to the terminal, but there are several terminals. The drive said he would take me to Southwest- No Problem.

Through security (they lost my comb) by 5am, and I'm at Gate D5 almost three hours early.

Free WiFi, so I sent an email to Janny and updated the blog.

I sat near Gate D5 and scanned the phone and the Chromebook until about 645am. Then I went for a 20" around the Southwest Airlines section of the airport. Sky is quite pretty- a mix of colorful mackerel clouds and patches of clear sky. The airport is set among some craggy, picturesque mountains.

I located the instructions on how to set my watch back to Springfield time. Not too difficult, but close.

The plane boarded exactly as billed- 745am to 815am and I was 'B-29',  and I was on the plane by 805am, but it really didn't get me anything since there were sixty or seventy empty seats on the plane. However, I did snag an isle seat in the first third of the plane- with my wheat bread and slices of cheese in a bag with the backpack. Trolling the runways and in the air right near 815am.

Although Southwest charges $8.00 for All Day WiFi, but there are quite a few 'free' features. Several selections of movies and about as many TV stations as you would get on cable TV in a motel or at home. There are far too many commercials, but I was impressed, but you have to have a smart phone or some kind of tablet.

1240pm- Touch Down in St. Louis
Called the Renaissance Hotel from the 'bank' of phones downstairs. The driver picked me up within 30". Exit 15 Hotel/ Motel Pickup. This is along the same strip that the long-term parking vans pick up.

When I checked in at the Renaissance the girl said that they were resurfacing their parking lot, so I would have to exit the other way. However, there was a chain up. I went back in, she repeated what she said, and I was driving around and yelled at a guy asking for the way out. He was coming in to work and he said, 'I've been gone for the last three days because my father died, but I will help you get out of this parking lot'. He used his card to flip up the 'arm' that was blocking the exit lane.

Out Natural Bridge and picked up Rt. 170 North just down the street, then 270 to 55 North... EZ!

330pm up the driveway and into the house. Buddy was yelling for food and affection- back to real life.

Changed the cat box and in the tub listening to Bob Mould by 5pm.

After six pm. watching 'I AM WRATH' (Amazon Prime)-  John Travolta in a kind of 'Charles Bronson Revenge Film'.

NOTE- When I pick up the car head south on Natural Bridge and then take Rt. 170 North straight up to Rt. 270 East to Rt. 55. This might take a few more miles, but it is obviously so much easier.
