Tu 10/9/18- Day One: (Phoenix Trip)
Tu 10/9/18
Both the the alarm clock and the phone alarm worked perfectly, and I was up at 530am. Actually I had been tossing and turning since about 3am- Rough night.
Only left a couple of windows open, and only a crack. 80's in Springfield today, but on Wednesday- Fall Arrives, temps in the fifties and sixties for the foreseeable future.
The immediate drive out of town was pleasant- A nice drive by the dawn's early light.
When I took the turn off at Exit 8, I was completely lost. It looked nothing like the map or the directions. Asked a road worker, and he got me back on Rt 170/70 and said I should get off at Natural Bridge Rd. Asked at a gas station, and I had just gone the wrong way. This is the smart route- a little out of the way, but your not going in circles in the middle of nowhere. Get off at Natural Bridge, and then come back. I didn't even lose a half hour, but it seemed like it took months off my life.
920am at the hotel van in the long term van parking to the airport. No problems at the check-in, and I was ready to go at 945am for the 1115am flight. One hour complimentary WiFi, and I used it a bit, but mostly I sat and starred. Very tired. I didn't eat or drink anything all morning except for 3/4 cup of coffee at Westview. This is the key to no bowel/urinary problems- Starve It Out.
Read THE CAMEL CLUB and ate a very small packet of crackers and pretzels and about 3 oz. of tomato juice on the plane. Read and napped; arrived almost a half hour ahead of schedule.
On the ground just after noon- Phoenix time, and in the bus to the Ground Transportation and the 'Fox Experience' took over an hour. The contract that I signed stunk of Lucifer. These guys aren't in the business of renting cars, they are in a very lucrative game of Gotcha! I hope I don't get Got. The only Upgrade I got was that I only have to bring the car back half full of gas. If I have to leave the room at 5am on Saturday, I don't need to be hunting for gas.
Drove straight west on Rt 10 and then north on Rt 17. Traffic was fairly heavy, but no problems. The Comfort Inn is directly across the street from LA Fitness, but it's kind of hard to access. However, I did learn that the parking lot is linked to the investment broker at 55th. I checked in and then headed to Paradise Lane.
3pm knocking on the door. Lucy opened the door, but she acted shocked that I was there even though she later said the Lannie told her about my visit. We talked with The Old Man, but he had no idea who I was or what was going on. All he wanted to do was to go to bed. A little after 330pm Laura arrived; she's a young Hispanic woman with a beautiful Huskie, and I liked her, but Lucy has an emotional connection with 'the old folks', and I think that Laura views it more of just a job.
Lucy split and Laura had the controls. She said that Lannie would be in between 7am and 9am tomorrow and I'm going to try to meet her. I had planned to go directly from his house to LA Fitness, but I forgot a towel, so I decided to do the shopping.
I left about 415pm and hit the Fry's down the road. Spent $40 and I got most of the stuff that I'll be eating; loaf of wheat bread/ peanut butter/ tortillas/ package of cheese/ 2 jumbo packs of cut salad/ utensils of plastic and foam plates.....and a 30pk. of Rolling Rock.
Put the stuff away....and got the two women on the front desk to get me logged on to the wifi; phone and chromebook. Grabbed a towel and across the street to LA Fitness. It's not even a hundred yards away, but the traffic on Bell is not conducive to walking. 30" Walk (The Melvins). 30" Cross (In Treatment). Nice ten minute steam/ pool/ whirlpool.
Back to the room to sip The Rolling Rock and write and listen to The Foo Fighters on an MTV station. I'm kind of blown away by my TV choices, although I don't see no Bravo?
