Th 1/31/19- The Death of Kenneth Worden Sr.
Th 1/31/19
Up 6am; cloudy, not as cold, but the temperature was hovering around zero when I pulled the trash bin to the curb this morning. It was too cold for a pickup on Wednesday. Temps to crack the mid teens later.
Watched 'AMERICAN ANIMALS' (Xfinity) An interesting heist movie, but I put off watching it because of the photo for the film- four figures with bird heads, and the description that it was about a book robbery at 'Transylvania University'. I thought it would be some kind of a fantasy film because I didn't realize that Transylvania University actually exists- it's in downtown Lexington, KY, and the film's photo refers to the theft of very rare Autobahn books that are archived at the university.
Watched 'RECOGNIZING YOUR SAINTS' (Amazon Prime) Gritty tale of growing up in Astoria, Queens, NY in the mid 80's. Star-studded cast; Robert Downey Jr./ Shia Labeouf/ Chazz Palminteri/ Diane Wiest.
Midway through the film I got a call from Janny that Lannie says that he only has a matter of hours/ days left. She and Joe are going to fly to Phoenix on Sunday and stay through Saturday. This might be the last time she will see him alive....or not. They invited me, but I declined.
Wasted far too much time trying to get rid of MSN News Feed when I open a new tab in Internet Explorer.
245pm- to LA Fitness
45" Cross (Watched TV). 45" Recumbent (read 'THE TROUBLED MAN/ listened to Adrian Belew on Hoopla). 45" Walk (THE BANK HEIST). 45" Bike (read/ TV). 30" Cross (TV).
In the tub and listening to Van Morrison and reading Henning Mankell when I got a call from Janny around 720pm and learned that our father had died around 230pm, Phoenix Time. Lannie had called her earlier in the morning saying that 'this was it', and Janny was able to talk to him for close to a half hour, although he never responded. Janny ended the conversation, and about twenty minutes later Lannie called to tell her that he had passed.
Janny and Joe will continue with their travel plans and will leave Sunday, late morning, from Peoria and should be in Phoenix and at Elsie's House by 2pm. I told her tonight that I would call late afternoon on Sunday and talk with her and Joe, and extend my condolences to Lannie.
He went pretty much in his sleep, without any pain, and about as effortlessly as anyone could have hoped. I guess as deaths go, this one was golden, and I hope something similar occurs when my time is up.
I watched, 'IF I LEAVE HERE TOMORROW' (Xfinity) on the PC downstairs; a biopic about Lynyrd Skynyrd. Not bad, and I still marvel at the band's work ethic. Once a song was written, all three guitarists and all the players never deviated from the printed page. Although known as a Southern Rock Band, they were as far from a 'jam band' as you could possibly get. I added a couple of their records on my Amazon Music....problems getting an Internet signal from the router, but finally got it. What's goin' on???
