Up 720am: Extremely warm with temps to upper 50's, yet rain starting mid morning and lasting through Saturday. Rain amounts are significantly lower; topping out at maybe 3 inches when it's all over.
Watched, 'ONE CHILD NATION' (Amazon Prime). Beginning in the early 80's the Chinese government adopted a policy of one child per family. Massive propaganda campaigns were instituted and government healthcare workers sought out pregnant women who already had a child and performed compulsory abortions. Many babies were abandoned and orphanages began selling these children to foreign families. By the early 90's, the state was involved in these highly profitable 'adoption mills'. The US prohibits abortion and the Chinese forcibly enacted laws to enforce abortion. At face value these two positions seem to be polar opposites, but both policies deny a woman's right to choose and affirms the right of the state to control her body.
Then, 'WAKE IN FRIGHT'. A terrific Australian film about a teacher in the Outback who heads to Sydney for the Xmas break, but stops in a small town for a few drinks and some gambling. Days later he's trapped in a soul-searing alcoholic bender that evolves into a harrowing tale of self destruction. 'The Kangaroo Hunt' sequence is one of the most distasteful things I've ever seen. The film was a nominee for the Palme d'Or in 1971; with Donald Pleasence, Farry Bond, and Chips Rafferty.
It's 2pm and no word from the duct cleaners.
I called DUCT DUSTERS on West Jackson for a quote. They'll call back: 217 553 0272. This number was already on my phone and I think this is the guy that advertised in Nextdoor, and his rate is about $400. I guess this makes more sense than seventy bucks. He's going to open all of the vents and vacuum all the way back. This will require at least three or four hours, no way $70 would cover that.
240pm: To Planet Fitness and on the machines by 3pm.
45" Walk (TRUE CRIME PODCAST). 45" Recumbent Bike (Read Burke and listened to DEATH and MASTERS OF REALITY). 45" Cross (MASTERS OF REALITY and MEAT PUPPETS II). 30" Walk (MESSIAH). 30" Cross (MESSIAH and OFF CAMERA- Jenny Slate).
It's raining, but nowhere near the expected storms. A little lightning and thunder, but not a monsoon. I think we dodged a bullet unless it gets really bad tomorrow.
Home to soak and listen to UNSANE and GOATSNAKE and read more Burke.
Watched a couple of YouTube interviews with Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley- YO LA TENGO.
