Up 8am: Partly sunny with temps to about 50.
I wrote an email responding to Janny's email. Whitney had to go in for an operation on her elbow and Joe's colonoscopy is next week. I said that maybe this was lucky since hospitals might be crowded and scary places over the next couple of weeks.
***I called Dax and spoke to Emily about my position with regard to the markets. She said that they were in the process of calling their large investors to say that now is the time to buy, not to sell. This is prudent fiscal wisdom and that I should stay the course. I guess I feel a little better, but things are happening so fast and furious that everything feels surreal.
Didn't start the Morning Movie until 1115am, and watched 'THE GIFT' (Netflix). A couple moves to a beautiful home in California to start a new life. The husband meets an old high school classmate and a forgotten incident is revisited; with Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall, and Joel Edgerton (he also directs). "You wrecked my life, and now I'm going to wreck yours....twenty five years later."
230pm:****Depressed, but will hit the 'Y'. An article in the New York Times says that 'something weird is going on in the markets'. Bonds and gold usually go up in value when equity markets plunge, but this has not been the case. Everything is sliding....
On the machines at the 'Y' shortly before 3pm. 45" Walk (TV all workout). 45" Cross. 45" Recumbent Bike. 30" Walk. 30" Cross.
Not many people in the place, but I couldn't tell if it was a normal Friday or were people 'sheltering in place'. I noticed on the TV that stores in many areas of the country were selling out of everything, so I decided to hit Fairhills again. I especially wanted to buy several more cans of food for Buddy.
I arrived at the store just after 6pm and it was way more packed than a regular Friday evening. I bought a bunch of canned goods, two bags of cat litter, more noodles and rice, and a big container of decaf; $65.
The plan is to use all of this extra food as a cushion and I will continue to do the regular shopping on Mondays....for as long as I can.
There was no toilet paper or any Kleenex in the entire store.
The lines were long, but people didn't seem to be very upset. It always surprises me as to what people consider essential....mostly junk food, and there were plenty of cans of cat food. .
Home to put away the stuff and then in the tub for more Florida Intrigue and ALL KOOPER and DAVID ESSEX.
*****I think that I've solved the water heater problem. There was nothing wrong with the unit. I just didn't have the knob turned all the way to 'Hot'. That almost cost me an expensive home visit.
Another episode of 'DIRTY MONEY'- THE MAN AT THE TOP (Netflix). The saga of a popular Malaysian Prime Minister and his wife who ripped off the country for billions, yet they are still loved! A Chinese financeir who was behind the crooked deal was one of the producer's of the Leonardo DiCaprio film, WOLF ON WALL STREET.
Watched, 'NATASHA LEGGERO/ GETTING DOUG WITH HIGH' (YouTube); 50".
