Up 730am: Partly sunny and a few degrees cooler- to upper 80's.
Watched '1BR' (Netflix). A creepy concept, but no follow through. A young woman arrives in LA and gets an apartment in a complex with many 'wonderful' neighbors. However, they are all cult members and they want her. 'ROSEMARY'S BABY' was the Gold Standard of creepy neighbors...and, 'THE SENTINEL' was another classic. This one isn't really in the running, but worth a look.
Then watched 'WOMEN HE'S UNDRESSED' (Kanopy). Australian, small-town guy, Orry~Kelly, makes it in Hollywood as a chic dress designer to the super- stars. He met Archie Leach and was in a relationship with him until he got famous as an actor and changed his name to Cary Grant. Cary Grant and Randolf Scot were both gay men living a lie. Although a bad drunk for most of his career Orry~Kelly manages to snare three Oscars. A strange presentation (seemed to be going for an almost 'dream-like' storyline ) but Orry~Kelly's intriguing use of color, texture, and form in the invention of his clothing designs were undeniable.
***I spent some time wading through YouTube videos to set the 'digital time' on the new Casio. I'm hoping that now this will advance the 'Day/Month/Date'- at midnight I guess I'll see. (Hoo-fucking-ray!!!it did!)
115pm: Will do an early walk to mail the disc at the Wabash PO. I thought I could get by without the AC, but getting too sticky. However, cool temps on the way with highs only in the lower 80's through next week.
310pm....Oakmont, Country Club, Laurel, Chatham south to Wabash PO box. Back the same way... JUST OVER 2 HOURS. Mp3... YO LA TENGO 'Genius/Love', JABBERJAW compilation, JAMES BROWN band.
Home to read DALEY downstairs and listening to DAVID MURRY, STEREOLAB.
In the tub with DALEY and listening to GOV'T MULE, 'Stadium Arcadium' ~ RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, RICK DERRINGER~ but too corny. Switched to BOB MARLEY~ 'Catch AFire'.
Watched 'LUCKY DAY' (Amazon Prime). An off-beat Canadian dark/ comedy/thriller about a guy just out of prison, he's got an asshole for a parole officer who's trying to put in back in stir, and the brother of the man that died because of his crime is psychotic and out to kill him. Silly, yet entertaining; with with Luke Bracey, Nina Dobrev, and Crispin Glover (he is always a believable lunatic).
Then my first episode of 'PAN Y CIRO'- 'The Failure of Drug Prohibition' (Amazon Prime). Diego Luna is the host to a dinner party of six people (including Gael Garcia Bernal) who dine and discuss the multifaceted issue of Mexico's drug problem. Even weed is not legal (or decriminalized), and these people think that it's time for a change, yet their country's drug policies are much more restrictive than many states in the US- for example, Illinois.
