 Sa 4/17/21

945am. 615pm. 1010pm.

Up 8am: Partly cloudy with temps to low 60's.

Culled through the films offered at Hoopla.

Watched 'RENDITION' (Hoopla). A bland, yet star-studded cast in a film about an Egyptian-American engineer who is suspected of terrorist activity and is 'disappeared' to a secret facility where he is interrogated and tortured; with Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Meryl Streeep, Omar Metwally, Alan Arkin, Peter Sarsgaard, and J.K. Simmons..."Beat your woman every morning. If you don't know why, she does". The interrogators use this bit of wisdom to rationalize torture and the implication is that if you don't have the stomach for it you should ask for reassignment. Voted the Worst Anti-War Film of 2007.

Watched 'THE REAL L WORD' (Pluto).  I watched for quite a while before I realized that the 'L' word was 'Lesbian'. Young, rich, entitled, and living large in LA. Then I watched part of an MSNBC program on gerrymandering.

140pm: ON THE TREADMILL...5 Miles at 3.4 pace and watched the next episode of 'THEM' and then ALI MACOFSKY on The Joe Rogan Experience.

Reading 'GIRLS LIKE US' in the living room and then walked at 620pm...Parkview, Wash. Pk., Wiggins, Leland, Walnut, Northside of Wash. Pk., up the hill, Parkview, Fairway and up to 940... ONE HOUR 20 MINS... Mp3... DRIVE BY TRUCKERS, MOBY~'18'.

In the tub with LETHEM anthology and listening to BEST OF THE EMPIRE BOARDWALK BLUES, ACID HOUSE KINGS, AC/DC.

'Lethem'.... Worst thing about being an atheist? Nobody to talk to when you come.

Watched Netflix disc 'THE LAST SHIFT'. The last few days in the career of a man who has spent over thirty years working nights at the same local burger joint. He must train a new night manager who happens to be a smart young black man who is on parole. A strange ending: the man steals money from the register and it gets blamed on the black kid. But the kid gives the man a fifty dollar gift certificate to Dick's as a going away present. It almost didn't make any sense, but Richard Jenkins was terrific; with Richard Jenkins, Shane Paul McGhie, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and Ed O'Neill. The film takes place in Michigan, but it was shot in Mayfield Township, Illinois- Just north of DeKalb, Il. This is where Richard Jenkins is from. "Some people turn up their sleeves, and other people don't turn up at all".
