 Su 5/9/21

915am. 215 pm. 935pm. 1045pm.

Up 8am: Rain ending this morning and then cloudy, breezy, and temps only to mid 50's. The heat is 'On' for the first time in a week.

Watched 'THE DISCIPLE' (Netflix). A serious student of Indian classical singing just can't get a break. He cannot get the respect and acclaim that he feels is rightfully his, and then he learns that his guru and mentors might not have been the most positive of role models. He is trying to resolve an age-old artistic dilemma; should he remain true to the ancient musical style or change to be more acceptable to modern tastes? I understand the film's theme, but I wouldn't know a well sung raga from one that was terrible. And even after I finished the film, I still couldn't differentiate between good classical and bad. Released in 2020 and won 7 international awards and was nominated for 8 others.

1220pm: ON THE TREADMILL...5 Miles at 3.4 pace and finished TOM SEGURA on Whiskey Ginger, most of a podcast with VANESSA JOHNSTON (I saw her many weeks ago on GETTING DOUG WITH HIGH) , and then more DAVE CHAPPELLE on J. R. E.

Watched '22 BULLETS' (Amazon Prime). A retired mafia kingpin from Marseilles, France is shot 22 times and left for dead. Now revenge rules his life because he can never be safe from the friends or relatives of people that he has murdered or destroyed; with Jean Reno. It's not among the best, but it's a 'worth-a-look' French Revenge film.

Then watched a little reality TV on Pluto- 'MAMA JUNE: FROM NOT TO HOT'.

540pm: The Weekly Cleaning.

615pm: ON THE TREADMILL... 2 Miles at 3.4 pace and more DAVE CHAPPELLE and VANESSA JOHNSTON.

7pm: In the tub with RVERS OF THE BLACK MOON and listening to BYRNE/ENO, and 'In Utero' ~ NIRVANA.

Watched 'LOCATING SILVER LAKE' (Amazon Prime). Low budget Art Film about a guy who gets dumped by his girlfriend at his college graduation and he heads to Los Angeles to seek his fortune as a writer. He takes a room in a house in Silver Lake and becomes friends with the locals- especially a Charlie Manson-type who is almost too weird to be believed. The film bit off a bit more than it could chew, but nice shots of Los Angeles that's not usually shown.
