815am (2). 1125am (1). 715pm (2). 845pm (1).
Up 630am: Rain through late this afternoon with temps to about 70.
I borrowed three titles from Hoopla to meet my quota for the month: 'ZULU', 'MEASURE OF REVENGE', 'THE MIGHTY APHRODITE'.
I wrote up 'HOLD TIGHT' by Harlan Coben for the blog.
Watched 'ZULU' (Hoopla). While investigating the brutal murder of a white woman two South African detectives uncover a plan by a pharmaceutical company to develop a drug to unleash on the black townships. This designer drug will cause users to become uncontrollably homicidal and this will decimate the black population and lead to white domination. A great and wacky idea for a film, but this movie was just so-so. Some nice machete action- a white man loses a hand and a black man is beheaded; with Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker. Filmed in Capetown, South Africa.
I later learned that the film was shown at Cannes in 2013 and when I found out the film was based on a French novel I got it from Amazon for four bucks.
Some of the dialog of the film was in Xhosa, Zulu, and Afrikaans and it wasn't translated and the subtitles just said 'foreign language spoken' and this left many scenes completely unintelligible.
Began episode #1 of 'A VERY ENGLISH SCANDAL' (Amazon Prime). In the mid 1960's a gay minister of parliament is outed by a former lover. Directed by STEPHEN FREARS. An interesting and well-made miniseries and there is a new season that just dropped with a completely different scandal, cast, and storyline.
1230pm: PC is 'Off' and preparing for a treadmill workout.
1250pm: FIVE MILES AT 4.0 PACE AND 1.5 SLANT and finished episode #2 of 'A VERY ENGLISH SCANDAL' (AMAZON PRIME) and more of DOUGLAS MURRAY ON J.R.E.
Reading 'THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY'.
4pm: TWO MILES AT 4.0 PACE AND 1.50 SLANT add finished DOUGLAS MURRAY on J.R.E and began JOE LIST on SKEPTIC TANK
455pm: In the tub with 'THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY' and listening to NEW BIRTH; 'Coda'- LED ZEPPELIN.
Watched 'MEASURE OF REVENGE' (Hoopla). A disturbed elderly actress gets revenge for her son's accidental drug overdose. She is a Shakespearean actress and characters of The Bard and various other playwrights are constantly on her mind or she is just schizophrenic? This is a movie that is so bad it's actually kind of good; with Melissa Leo, Bella Thorne, and Kevin Corrigan.
