 Fr 2/3/23

640am (B). 10am (6 hits on the Birthday Joint). 12pm (1-B). 125pm (1-B). 435pm (2-SB). 705pm (2-B).

Up 510am: Mostly sunny and frigid with temps only to 20 degrees.

***Yesterday I got a birthday card from Jamie & Melissa's kids and they all signed the card...even Tommy.

Watched 'THE ALLEYS' (Netflix). A hustler in the slums of East Amman tells his friends and family that when he leaves the neighborhood he goes to a good job 'working with Americans'. Actually, he just sets up rich people and sends them to bars and restaurants where he takes a cut of what they spend. It's a convoluted and 'noir-ish' plotline, but he ends up murdered (by his girlfriend's mother) and the community chooses to believe that he was a 'good man'. This would be a hit at a film festival and I really enjoyed the film. Set in East Amman, Jordan.

Wrote a reply to Janny's birthday wishes. I told her about the card that all of Jamie's family signed.

Finished 'THE WOMEN AND THE MURDERER' (Netflix). In the end we learn that the rapist and murderer was an eloquent letter writer and also had an excellent grasp of human psychology. It seems to me that these attributes are just the 'positive' side effects of being a sociopath and only a sucker would believe anything that he had to say. However, this particular case was instrumental in creating a French national database for DNA.

And then began 'GRASS IS GREENER' (Netflix).  One of the best video presentations of 'American Cannabis Culture' and how it came to be.  It makes the very important point that the 'War on Drugs' had little to do with the harmful effects of drugs, but was really about political repression. Blacks and Hippies were anti establishment cannabis users and the drug laws could be used to target them with harsh fines, exorbitant legal expenses, and long jail sentences.  Shut it down at 43 minutes and although I've seen this one before, I will refinish it once again.

1140am: PC is 'Off' and will walk on the treadmill. I think I'll skip the weights today since the right shoulder is still a little sore.

1205pm: FIVE MILES AT 4.0 PACE AND ZERO SLANT began DR. CARL HART on J.R.E.

No Weights

Reading 'STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND'

350pm: TWO MILES AT 4.0 PACE AND ZERO SLANT; finished NEAL BRENNAN on THEO VON;  began LOUIS C.K on BERTCAST.

445pm:  In the tub with 'STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND' and listening to Early KING CRIMSON Playlist; THE BLACK CROWES- 'Shake Your Money Maker' Playlist.

Watched more of LOUIS C.K. on BERTCAST

Began 'EL MARGINAL' (Netflix). A Lo-fi & Gritty presentation of life in a third world prison in Bueno Aires, Argentina.  An ex-cop agrees to enter the prison undercover to try and locate the whereabouts of a kidnapped teenage girl who is the daughter of a local judge. 13 wins & 19 nominations. I shut it down 25 minutes into episode #2.
