735am (5 hits off of The Birthday Joint- a very inefficient and wasteful way to smoke weed). 1015am (2-B). 1210pm (2-B). 445pm (2-B). 705pm (2-B).
Up 605am: Bright and sunny with temps to just above 50.
Did the Weekly Cleaning and then watched the Netflix disc 'THE CHILDREN ACT'. A powerful and moving drama about a female British judge who adjudicates a Jehovah's Witness legal case in which a seventeen year old boy decides to refuse a blood transfusion because it's 'against the will of God'. The judge rules that the state must intercede to save the boy's life, and soon after the procedure the boy seems to flourish. Then, when the cancer returns he refuses more transfusions and dies. A beautiful ensemble cast and it's one of the most thought provoking films that I've seen in quite a while; with Emma Thompson, Stanley Tucci, and Ben Chaplin. 2 wins & 5 nominations.
Watched the end of the Netflix disc 'THE DUKE'. The good natured old thief gets three months in prison, but he made the authorities look ridiculous. Later the son confessed to the actual theft, but the prosecution didn't want to deal with the old man again so charges were dropped.

Began 'MUMBAI MAFIA: Police vs. The Underworld' (Netflix). A certain branch of the police in Mumbai were called 'encounter cops'. 'Encounter' meant that they killed gangsters- No apprehension, No trial, just shot in the streets and nobody complained. Riots in Mumbai during the early 90's left the citizens desperate for 'law & order. I shut it down at 108 minutes and that leaves 19 minutes to go. Only a small chance that I might finish this, but I will read about the social and political reasons for the riots.
