Weekly Cleaning

Watched 'WE DON'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE' (Kanopy). It's a profile of two couples.  Although they are best of friends, their marriages are deeply troubled and they have secret, guilt ridden affairs with each other's spouses. The movie shows a different portrayal of infidelity than normally seen on film. There are no winners in the game of Love & Marriage, only losers. Nothing is ever really completely resolved and the couples just carry on and deal with the emotional scars as best they can. Certainly better than the usual more traditional themes of 'happily ever after' or 'forever damned'; with Mark Ruffalo, Laura Dern, Peter Krause, Naomi Watts. 2 wins & 4 nominations. "66" Metascore although none of the ten critics listed rated the film lower than "70". I'd give it at least an "83". 

Watched 'BIGGEST HEIST EVER' (Netflix). A couple of weirdos steal a few billion dollars worth of bitcoins and then post thousands of YouTube videos boasting of their lavish lifestyle. The guy had somewhat of a background in computers, but his father had a serious technical background, so was he involved in the shenanigans? The young woman began life in a poor home in a tiny California town and took every possible advantage that was available. She certainly accomplished more than almost anyone else. Too bad it was all illegal.

Finished an episode of 'FILES OF THE UNEXPLAINED' (Netflix). In February of 1978 five mentally challenged men drove up a mountain, abandoned their car, and then walked out in the snowy wilderness. Four of the bodies were not found until the following spring and one man was never located. Why were they there and why did they leave their vehicle? Fifty years later and their motives and actions are still unexplained. 'The Yuba County Five'- The incident occurred about 40 miles north of Sacramento, CA.

More 'BLACK WARRANT' (Netflix). I shut it down 21 minutes into episode #2. The newbie gets to oversee a double execution. Two guys kidnapped a couple of teenagers and raped the girl and then murdered them both. Each kidnapper said that the other guy did the killing.

We 8/15/18 Up 820am; overcast, clammy, and threatening. Rain predicted all day and tomorrow- none so far; 915am. (All day and barely a sprinkle- it was happening all around us, but nothing here) Watched  'SUSPECT ZERO' (Amazon Prime) Aaron Eckhart/ Ben Kingsley/ Carrie Anne Moss.  Eckhart plays a disgraced FBI agent who is being fed information by a serial killer. Seems to be Ben Kingsley, but he's not the killer, he's an ex-agent who can do 'remote viewing'. Not bad, but close, however excellent and creative charcoal drawings as the 'hints' to Eckhart's character. Still unseasonably warm with a mix of sun & clouds. Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80". A troubled teen and his young sister try to make a go of it on their farmstead dairy after their father dies. It's got a strange tone and far from an average 'coming of age' tale. Set in far eastern France near the rural villages of Pimorin and Orgelet which are about 75 miles west of Geneva, Switzerland.
