I borrowed 'THE TROUBLE WITH JESSICA' & 'WIFE OF A SPY' from Hoopla. I have no more 'Borrows' remaining for August.

Watched 'THE WIFE OF A SPY' (Hoopla). A complex story set in Japan shortly before Pearl Harbor and concerns a Japanese business owner and his wife. They get information that the Japanese were using bio warfare in China and they want to release this information to provoke the Americans to attack Japan. The film is a very different take on the 'Espionage Thriller' genre. Directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa who is a horror film director and not related to Akira Kurosawa. Seven wins & 9 nominations. "79" Metascore and I would go to "85". 

Watched 'THE TROUBLE WITH JESSICA' (Hoopla). A married couple in a tony neighborhood of London host an intimate dinner party and one of the guests storms off and hangs herself in the garden. They decide not to call the police and then the guilt and complications set in. A clever and spicy recreation of a 'dinner party from Hell'; with Alan Tudyk, Shirley Henderson, Rufus Sewell, Olivia Williams, Indira Varma. "51" Metascore and I would go to "77"..

AI Overview: One of the guests at the dinner party was renowned for making this dish..."Clafoutis is a classic French baked dessert featuring a fruit filling, traditionally black cherries, and a thick, pancake-like custard batter. Still unseasonably warm with a mix of sun & clouds. Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80".
