Weekly Cleaning

Watched 'ALONE WITH HER DREAMS' (Amazon Prime). Set in Sicily during the sixties it's about a family that relocates to France to look for work. They don't have enough money to bring their preteen daughter and she must stay behind with her grandmother. The old woman is unpopular in the village and this is an ongoing mystery for the granddaughter. It's because many years before the old lady was raped by her sister's husband. Before the young girl reunites with her family, this same man rapes her. The actress that played the young girl made the film work. Beautiful locations and very well shot and it won several Italian film awards. 

Watched 'TROUBLE IN MIND' (Amazon Prime). An ex-con meets a couple with a baby and becomes attracted to the woman. It's kind of 'Campy Film Noir' with lots of outrageous paintings, sculptures, and curious looking sets; with Kris kristofferson, Keith Carradine, Lori Singer (I thought that I was watching Daryl Hannah), Genevieve Bujold, Joe Morton, Divine (as a man), Dirk Blocker, John Considine. Set in 'Rain City' and shot in 'Seattle, WA'. Directed by Alan Rudolph. Marianne Faithful- vocals; Mark Isham- trumpet. "78" Metascore and I would go to "83". Here's two divergent views and I agree with both.

'CHICAGO READER'- "Alan Rudolph dreams the dream of film noir in this dense, beautifully executed, highly stylized romantic fantasy."

'THE NEW YORKER'- "The picture is a pile of poetic mush set in some doom-laden, vaguely universal city of the past and/or the future."

Finished JOE DEROSA on 'HISTORY HYENAS' and a short YouTube video of an identity thief as she tries to cash a rubber check.

More 'THE DEAD GIRLS' (Netflix). I shut it down 6 minutes into the second episode. A man and woman have an intense affair, but the man takes her money and leaves her in Veracruz, Mexico. It's about how the woman gets revenge. The series looks very 'classy' and 'big budget'.

Still unseasonably warm with a mix of sun & clouds. Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80".
