Watched 'ALL WE IMAGINED AS LIGHT' (Kanopy). Total immersion into the private worlds of a couple of nurses and a female cook who work in an Indian metropolitan hospital. First, their claustrophobic urban lives in Mumbai, and then in the Edenic coastal town of Ratnagiri. Mesmerizing...Nominated for 1 BAFTA Award; 48 wins & 93 nominations. "93" Metascore and that's about where I'd put it.  2024 nominee for Palm d'Or, Cannes Film Festival.   

Watched 'THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND' (Amazon Prime). A nerdy & eccentric multimillionaire invites a once popular folk duo to play a concert for him on his private island off the coast of Wales. A sweet film that's both droll and poignant; with Kate Mulligan, Tom Basden (he wrote songs and sang all the music with Kate Mulligan), Tim Key (a brilliant performance as the starstruck fanboy with millions to spare). Gags: Rice for drenched phone; Reese's Peanut Butter cups- creamy peanut butter in a coffee cup; He made his fortune by winning the lottery twice..."That was two pounds well spent". Set along the coastline of Wales near Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. "78" Metascore and I would go to "91".

***530pm power outage. Just for a moment, but everything went down and it came back on within seconds. The red light on the router is now green. Later I learned that the speaker bars on both units needed to be manually turned on.

We 8/15/18 Up 820am; overcast, clammy, and threatening. Rain predicted all day and tomorrow- none so far; 915am. (All day and barely a sprinkle- it was happening all around us, but nothing here) Watched  'SUSPECT ZERO' (Amazon Prime) Aaron Eckhart/ Ben Kingsley/ Carrie Anne Moss.  Eckhart plays a disgraced FBI agent who is being fed information by a serial killer. Seems to be Ben Kingsley, but he's not the killer, he's an ex-agent who can do 'remote viewing'. Still unseasonably warm with a mix of sun & clouds. Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80". A troubled teen and his young sister try to make a go of it on their farmstead dairy after their father dies. It's got a strange tone and far from an average 'coming of age' tale.
