Watched 'JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH' (Netflix). A powerful film about the 'police execution' of Black Panther organizer, Fred Hampton and how the FBI used a confidential informant to make it happen. Hampton was only 21 when he was killed. I had seen it before, but had forgotten how good this film was; with Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield, Jesse Plemons, Dominique Fishback, Martin Sheen (under a ton of makeup as J. Edgar Hoover). Won 2 Oscars; 45 wins & 85 nominations. "84" Metascore and I would go to "93".    

Watched 'JANE AUTEN WRECKED MY LIFE' (Netflix). A young French woman (and an aspiring author) who owns a bookstore is invited to attend a writer's workshop in England. She becomes involved with the son of the owner of the retreat and then is visited by a boyfriend from home. The film is a kind of a cinematic depiction of a busted love triangle. Too mild & tempid to make much of an impression. "73" Metascore and that's about where I'd put it. From COLLIDER: "Despite beautiful shots and strong performances in the film, what ultimately comes up lacking is the story."

More 'AS YOU STOOD BY' (Netflix). I shut it down 14 minutes into the final episode. This is so melodramatic and I'll bet that it will not tie up every loose end. I don't see how there could be another season, but stranger things have occurred.

We 8/15/18 Up 820am; overcast, clammy, and threatening. Rain predicted all day and tomorrow- none so far; 915am. Still unseasonably warm with a mix of sun & clouds. Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80".
