Weekly Cleaning

Watched 'THE LEFT-HANDED GIRL' (Netflix). I was pleasantly surprised with this one. A sweet four year old girl has the run of a huge picturesque outdoor market in urban Taipei. The twist is that she is actually the daughter of her older sister. This is revealed at her 'grandmothers' 60th birthday party, but the woman is actually her 'great-grandmother'.  The film is sweet and poignant. "77" Metascore and I would go to "87". THE FILM STAGE: "Director Shih-Ching Tsou’s solo debut Left-Handed Girl is a simple but striking drama about growing up in a family living paycheck-to-paycheck."

More 'FUGUE STATE: 1986' (Netflix). I shut it down 34 minutes into episode #4. More 'ping-ponging' through time and this only adds to the confusion. I'm not sure if the older grumpy guy and the distraught younger guy are not the same person. Is that intentional, or is it me and the THC?

1250pm: FIVE MILES AT 4.0 PACE AND ZERO SLANT; CAROLINE FLACK: HER LIFE & DEATH (Amazon Prime: 45")- A popular female English 'news-presenter' commits suicide after being dropped. She was accused (and convicted) of attacking her boyfriend. What she didn't want to get out was that the altercation occurred during her attempt at suicide. Later she was more successful; more 'CHAOS' .

More 'FUGUE STATE: 1986' (Netflix). I finished episode #5. No closer to understanding the relationship between the young confused guy and the grumpy guy. Was Conan Doyle really a surgeon?

Still unseasonably warm with a mix of sun & clouds. Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80".
