Weekly Cleaning

Watched 'BRIGHTBURN' (Netflix). Wow! Another very pleasant surprise. A couple in rural Brightburn, Kansas were having fertility issues when they found a beautiful baby boy in a spaceship that landed in their backyard. A wild premise yet they make it believable.  When the alien boy hits puberty he learns that he is different and comes to accept that his destiny is to rule the world. Some of the scenes bordered on extreme satire and lots of gruesome and over the top violence. The parents are so earnestly trying to raise their adopted son and protect him from the world, yet the boy realizes that earth belongs to him; with Elizabeth Banks. "44" Metascore and I would go to "81". From IGN: "Brightburn doesn't take its satire to any kind of satisfying extreme – although a mid-credits stinger does include a larger joke at work – but as a superhero murder thriller, it is perfectly entertaining. "

Watched 'STONE COLD FOX' (Netflix). Silly to the point where it wasn't worth the effort. My first 'Thumbs Down' in months. I just finished the movie and couldn't say exactly what it was about. I guess it's a ham-fisted video valentine to hot & wild young women and not to be taken too seriously by design.

From IMDB: "In 1986, the defiant Fox breaks out of an abusive commune in search of her family. But when the queenpin kidnaps her little sister and sends a crooked cop after her, Fox has no choice but to infiltrate the very place she escaped."An interesting observation: "You get what you get, don't get upset".

I had never heard of these 'acts of rebellion'.

Read & finished 'THE BRASS VERDICT' by MICHAEL CONNELLY & skimming 'ACID FOR THE CHILDREN' by FLEA.

545pm: In the tub with 'ACID FOR CHILDREN and listening to ARTHUR BLYTHE Playlist; ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN Playlist; ROBERT FRIPP Playlist.

Watched a YouTube video: ROBERT KELLY talks about how he thinks that 'modern weed stinks'. On the other hand, Big Jay pays the $250 'smoking charge' if caught, but always smokes pot in the room until checkout.

Began 'PAPARAZZI KING' (Netflix). It's a profile of the son of an Italian media mogul. Magazines and television were the heart of dad's empire and he shares responsibility for the dumbing down of the Italian populace. The son becomes a male sex symbol and marries a desirable high fashion model. What this guy represents is more of an Italian thing and Americans have Hollywood, but this is something different. I shut it down 17 minutes into the second episode and I'll definitely finish this Italian mini-series.

Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80".
