Weekly Cleaning

Watched 'KARTAVYA' (Netflix). This was a film where you had to know something of the culture to understand what & why events unfolded as they did. It went over my head. A cop is upset that a teenage boy was forced to murder a female journalist. The kid was part of a cult and the swami wanted the woman dead.  Also, villagers are trying to kill his brother and his betrothed because they are marrying out of their respective castes. The cop ends up killing all of his enemies (no thoughts of guilt or being caught?) and the film ends on a high note. Mystified...Filmed in Western Uttar Pradesh of India which is located in the north central part of the country adjacent to Nepal.

I watched a 13 minute YouTube video about the film but the crucial points of the review weren't translated in the video. Maybe the reviewer's opinions about the customs of the people of that region in India were too much for the censors at YouTube? It looks like I got about 85% of the storyline. 

Watched 'FALLING' (Netflix). A happily married gay man tries to help his father sell the family farm and move closer to the family. However, dad is a toxic & racist character who hates most humans with the exception of himself. He's Archie Bunker to the tenth power and his repellant observations are shockingly hilarious; with Viggo Mortensen (writer, director & co-star), Lance Henriksen (THE X-FILES, DOG DAY AFTERNOON, PRINCE OF THE CITY, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND), Laura Linney. "63" Metascore and I would go to "78". From THE FILM STAGE: "Mortensen is clearly attuned to the emotional toll of maintaining such a relationship—loving someone even if they don’t show any love back—but once this idea is firmly laid out early on, the repetitive narrative doesn’t expand to reveal more layers of complexity."

Later police discovered she was just hiding out with her boyfriend, and she lied to him about her intentions as well; more 'SOUTHLAND'.
