Watched 'THE DRY' (Kanopy). A police detective visits his hometown to check out a man who murdered his family and then took his own life. It's a personal favor to the family and the cop hadn't been back in twenty years. The film has a literary feel with lots of engaging plot twists and it turns out that it wasn't murder/suicide at all. From a novel by Jane Harper; with Eric Bana. "69" Metascore and I would go to "84". The movie is set in the fictional town of Kiewarra, Australia "which is depicted as a drought-stricken, rural sheep-farming community roughly five hours from Melbourne". Filmed in Beulah, Australia and nearby Wimmera-Mallee.
Watched 'JENNIFER'S BODY' (Netflix). It's a reasonably funny 'Teen Scream' genre film because it doesn't take itself seriously. A nerdy teenage girl is 'bff' with the hottest coed in high school. The hottie gets turned into a vampire by a touring satanic rock band and mayhem ensues; with Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Brody, J.K. Simmons, Amy Sedaris. Directed by Diablo Cody (JUNO). "47" Metascore and I would go to "84".
Finished 'ANIMAL KINGDOM' (Netflix; season #1). 'The Kid' sides with the Cody family and against the authorities. However, in the final scene of season #1 he's fondling a handgun and eyeing his grandmother. I'm going to hold off on season #2 and watch the Australian film soon.

More of MARK NORMAND on STAVVY'S WORLD.
Began 'RIKU OH' (Netflix). The ancient Japanese tabi (socks with individual toe sections) business is on the decline so the owner decides to make 'running tabi' shoes. The owner needs $50,000,00 to $100,000,00 Japanese yen for new equipment and that's between $300,000 and $600,000 usd. A theory in the film: Homo sapiens beat out Neanderthals' and other humanoid types because Homo sapiens could run faster because they ran without hitting the heel first. When the foot strikes 'mid foot' it prevents knee injuries and you can run longer and faster. I wonder if this is true?
