Watched 'THE WEDDING BANQUET' (Hoopla). A sweet and intelligent gay film. A lesbian couple and a gay couple are friends. The guys want to get married but can't resolve 'green card' issues and the lesbians want a baby but IVF is too expensive. They try something that could benefit all concerned, but when one of the guys' grandmother (who is rich & influential) visits from Korea, things take a theatrical turn. Director Andrew Ahn's film (2025) is an adaptation of a film by Ang Lee (1993). Lee's film dealt with the issue of 'closeted gay' and Ahn's movie focuses on how queer people intentionally build 'chosen families'. Ang Lee's movie is on Tubi and I tagged it for later viewing. "68" Metascore and I'd go to "81". 

Finished 'AMERICAN HONEY' (Netflix). If you were poor with no discernible future, a retail job selling magazines and seeing the country might seem romantic and carefree. From great risk can come great reward...or you could short circuit the rest of your life. No easy answers; with Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf, Riley Keough. Directed by Andrea Arnold. "80" Metascore and I would boost that to "90".

Began 'THE POLYGAMIST' (Netflix).  A lurid soap about Black influencers & entrepreneurs in South Africa. I like it. Set and shot in Johannesburg, South Africa. I shut it down 22 minutes into the second episode.
