Watched 'THE 24th' (Netflix).  In August of 1917 members of the Black 3rd battalion of the 24th army infantry attacked the city of Houston, Texas. Nineteen whites were killed. Racial tensions had been brewing and the soldiers were tricked into believing that they were under fire from a white mob. The tone is a bit heavy handed, but it's an important incident in US history.  The largest court-martial in U.S. military history; 118 Black soldiers on trial for mutiny and murder. 110 convicted. 850am: A fire truck pulled up with lights flashing and after a momentary freakout, I saw that they were just here to 'bleed' the fire hydrant. Plenty of water pressure & water went in a big arc over to the other side of the street. Just when they pulled away the guy next door began mowing his lawn wearing long pants & long sleeve shirt- all black. He might not make it. An aesthetic emergency it is not! I was at my limit the last time I mowed and today is not any less brutal. 

Watched 'TO DIE FOR' (Netflix). I saw this many years ago and it was well worth a second look. Directed by GUS VAN SANT, I saw his new film, 'DEAD MAN'S WIRE' on Netflix not too long ago. It's about a man who takes a mortgage executive hostage with a shotgun wired to his neck (plotline is similar to 'DOG DAY AFTERNOON).  "TO DIE FOR' deals with a young woman who would do anything to become 'a television personality' including having her husband killed; with Nicole Kidman, Matt Dillon, Joaquin Phoenix, Casey Affleck, Illeana Douglas. Nominated for 1 BAFTA Award; 7 wins & 17 nominations. "86" Metascore and that's where I'd put it.

1235pm: PC is 'Off' and I'm staying inside all day. Way too hot on the outside. Preparing for a walk on the treadmill. 

1255pm: FIVE MILES AT 4.1 PACE AND ZERO SLANT;  HOMICIDE SQUAD: NEW ORLEANS- A fifteen year old boy is shot and killed by a guy who didn't even know him. It was over a disagreement between two girls that didn't concern either guy. Senseless; began 'TUESDAYS WITH STORIES.

230pm- 310pm: Call to ARC. She was talking a mile a minute (manic?), but I gleaned that she'll have a lung biopsy on July 6th & she has another mass growing on her back. She claimed they were late with her pain pill, but they were actually 20 minutes early. She must be terrified & July 14 she gets the results of the body & brain scans. These might be the good times compared to what lies ahead. 

***The call threw me off & I completely forgot the second session on the treadmill. That was a first.

Watched a YouTube video 'How Chrissie Hynde survived the tragedy of The Pretenders. Two days after the band fired the bassist for heroin addiction, they learned that their lead guitarist was dead of a heart attack due to cocaine abuse. 

More 'NOTES FROM THE LAST ROW' (Netflix). I shut it down 35 minutes into the third episode. I still don't understand what the kid is up to and what does the writing teacher want from his student? It's still interesting even though I know what is going on, I don't know why the characters are doing what they do. 'Lifestyle Platform GS 25' is like a Korean '7/11' only hipper with restaurant food, Amazon/ UPS packages can be routed to the store, banking services, and all kinds of apps tied to the store.

A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home.
