We 1/30/19- DOWNED BRANCH/ POLAR VORTEX

Up 545am; "The Springfield area will be colder than the top of Mount Everest and the North Pole and some parts of Antarctica,” said National Weather Service". Sunny and temps could reach 50 on Sunday.

I noticed that a large branch from one of the pine trees in the backyard has fallen on a neighbor's shed. I can't tell if it's straddling any utility lines.

Watched 'HAPPY AS LAZZARO' (Netflix) A crooked land owner, The Marquise de Luna, has a collection of families living on her tobacco farm as modern day serfs. Lazzaro is a 'good man', 'saint', holy fool', who befriends her son, Tancredi. In a random accident, Lazzaro falls off a mountain, and apparently dies. About twenty years later he comes back ( Christ figure? ghost? saint? apparition?) and finds most of  his old village living in a city. The more that Lazzaro tries to do the right thing, the more he is thwarted. When he goes to a bank to try and get the money that was taken from Tancredi de Luna, he is mistaken for a bank robber, beaten by the bank customers, and dies. A wolf (his spirit?) is seen leaving the town trotting down a roadway crowded with cars; very Art House, but not bad.

Then, watched 'POLAR'  Mads Mikkelsen plays a retiring hitman who is owed eight million dollars from his firm, but they try to welsh on his pension plan. They mistakenly choose to take him out, but it just can't be done. And there's a subplot about a neighbor woman who turns out to be an unfinished hit from early in his career. He's been supporting her all these years, and in the end of the film, they prepare to team up to find out who ordered the hit on her family. A sequel in the offing? The film was over-the-top garish and lurid- colors, drugs, violence, and sex; from a graphic novel.

Wrote an reply email to Janny, and began reading 'THE PENULTIMATE TRUTH' at 230pm.

It's far too cold and I won't even leave the house today.....or even open a door. I read in the chair and got to the point where I needed something else to read. The concept  of a PK Dick novel is sometimes better than the book. As always, the books are chock full of interesting ideas, but the style and the writing are pretty wooden. The Wikipedia entry is all I need to know.
Started one of my new Kurt Wallander books on the couch ('THE QUIET MAN'- just learned that it's the last of the series), and read until 615pm. Into the tub with a tape of 'The Commodores' and more about Swedish police business.

Never opened the door all day. Tonight is the final 'TED BUNDY TAPES' (Netflix). The series was a smashing success and also provides super-real look at the clothing and hairstyles of late 70's America. Then the first episode of a Netflix series about a contemporary Black Rapper who wants to use 'Black Owned Products' only;  maybe just a bit socially and culturally tone deaf?
