Tu 8/20/19- Staab 1pm/ Internet Outage at Midnight
Up 730am; overcast and very humid. Strong thunderstorms predicted to begin about noon; to mid 80's.
Called Staab, but Kari Jones was not in, and I said that I would call back and cancelled this afternoon's appointment due to the heavy storms. I just want a simple statement that I can file with my will that I want the cheapest cremation with absolutely no frills. And, I will pay for nothing in advance.
Watched 'CBGB' (Amazon Prime) A bio-pic of the legendary punk rock venue in NYC. It missed the mark and completely failed to reflect any of the artistry of the performers. The tone was all off, yet still very watchable.
Then watched 'WELCOME TO FOREVER' (Amazon Prime) - A twelve minute short film about a 'malfunctioning virtual person' who is terminated, and the 'terminator' saves the guy's dog.
The, 'ALL ROADS LEAD' (Amazon Prime) A very compelling 'Faux- True- Crime' tale about two runaway girls from Nashville, IL (The film calls it Colston, IL, but there is no such town. One of the guys in the film is wearing a tee shirt that is from a bar in Nashville, IL) who died in a car fire in Queens, NY. The car was loaded with chemicals to make meth and mysteriously ignited. The filmmakers interview many of the friends, family, and local people of the girls' hometown. Near the end of the film the director is murdered and his beaten and bullet ridden body is found near a desolate lake. A shady bar owner with connections to the meth trade might be the common thread behind all of these crimes. I was really surprised by how interesting this film was. FIVE STARS!
My review of the film at Amazon:
"I guess 'ALL ROADS LEAD' could be called 'Faux True Crime' in that it purports to be based on actual events, but is complete fiction.
However, I thoroughly enjoyed the film and found the story darkly compelling. The shady bar owner with links to the meth trade might be the common thread behind all of the crimes, but the film offers no clear resolution.
Sometimes justice is not served, especially in contemporary rural America. Decades ago the farming areas of the country were seen as bucolic and idyllic , but today poverty and drugs have added an almost sinister element to rural living.
And that's what this film is all about."
I called Kari at Staab and she'll send out a letter that will contain my wishes for cremation. Also, how many copies of death certificates and other forms will be needed. The whole shebang will cost just south of three grand!
330pm: I called the 'Y', and they're 'Open'. The clerk said that there might be a 'chemical smell', but it was just fine when I arrived. It looks like the worst of the storms have already passed, but rain is still in the forecast for the next two days.(No further rain today)
4pm on the machines at the 'Y'. Reality TV All Workout. 45" Walk. 45" Recumbent Bike. 45" Cross. 30" Walk. 30" Cross.
Home to soak and read more of Count Alexander Rostov and listen to SONNY ROLLINS/ IAN HUNTER.
The next 'FREE MEEKS' (Amzon Prime), then an episode of 'CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM'.
*******I was asleep in the chair, but the internet went out just after midnight. I used the phone to contact Xfinity and they admitted an outage and offered to send me a text when it was back up. This morning I checked my messages and the internet was restored at 220am. I did a Speed Test and I'm roaring along at 7.1 Mbps and the upload at 5.0.
