Up 730am: Another hot one! Sunny and temps to 90.
Watched 'POISON ROSE' (Amazon Prime) A rather basic tale of a hard-boiled, neo-noir, Los Angeles detective set in 1978. He's called to Galveston, Texas by a client who wants him to contact her rich aunt. She's in a nursing home and they haven't been able to communicate with her. Galveston is the detective's old home town and as he reacquaints with old friends and runs down leads, treachery brews. 'CHINATOWN' this ain't; with John Travolta, Morgan Freeman, Famke Janssen, and Ella Bleu Travolta, John Travolta's real-life daughter who also plays his daughter in the film. Filmed in Savannah, Georgia.
They are cutting the grass at Boozer's house. It's a tough row to hoe, they let it go for too long.
Then, 'FREIGHT TRAIN: SLAYER OF INNOCENCE' (Amazon Prime) A forty-five minute documentary about William 'Freight train' Guatney, a serial killer of young boys who was probably responsible for more than a dozen murders in the Midwest. One of the murders was a boy from Riverton, and Guatney was at the Illinois State Fair in the late 70's and was placed on a nine day, twenty-four hour surveillance by the police. When he was finally captured and charged, he was judge mentally unfit to stand trial and died in a mental institution.
Then I watched the final episode of 'UNDONE' (Amazon Prime) Another successful show that deals with the unwieldy subject of time travel. A young girl is approached by the spirit? of her dead father and they try to change reality by going back and preventing his death in a car crash. My new favorite actress is the star of the show, Rosa Salazar.
210pm: On the bike to LA Fitness. 45" Walk (Began 'SKYLINES' A German series about rappers and criminals in Frankfort, Germany. Dubbed in English it shows that Rap is now the voice of the dispossessed all over the world. I'm still not a fan of the genre, but there is no denying it). 45" Recumbent Bike (TV- Impeachment). 45" Cross (SKYLINES). 30" Walk (SKYLINES). 30" Cross (3 episodes of 'SKYLINES' today).
Home to read 'THE RULES OF CIVILITY' downstairs and listened to SONNY ROLLINS.
Then in the tub with more Towles and SONIC YOUTH/ SOUL COUGHING/ SPENCER DAVIS GROUP.
'TWO SENTENCE HORROR STORIES' Episode #1 (Netflix) Strange first date where a guy loves women with babies, and his date is a 'mommy' for a doll.
Then 'EXHIBIT A' - (Netflix) DNA evidence concerning a black man assaulted in an orthodox community in Brooklyn. The point of the documentary seems to be that DNA can be misinterpreted or manipulated especially if multiple people leave trace DNA. Can you identify five different songs if playing simultaneously and at different volumes?
And a 'CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM'.
