Mo 6/1/20

Up 630 am: Partly cloudy and breezy with temps to about 80.

Watched, 'MAD AS HELL' (Hoopla). A profile of The Young Turks- Cenk Uygur (Jenk U-ger). He is more than a proponent of progressive ideas because he was one of the first to foresee the rising power of social media and online news content. He was right to downplay the importance CNN or MSNBC because now online news has become a much bigger influencer than cable news.

Then watched, '1985' (Kanopy).  The film is a lackluster, black and white film set in Texas at the onset of the AIDS Crisis.

My post at Kanopy:

"Because it is set in 1985 the film lacks a confrontational edge and presents the topic of sexual identity in a most mild and bland manner. The message seems to be that it's more important to maintain the family's status quo rather than to realistically confront the protagonist's sexual orientation and that 'nice, Christian, and well liked' takes precedence over the truth. Hopefully, this attitude is ancient history and will remain so."

Then watched, 'EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL IS FAR AWAY' (Amazon Prime). A young man, a young woman, and a robot head journey across the desert in search of Crystal Lake; with Julia Garner and Joseph Cross. Barely worth a look but for Julia Garner.

Spent time lamely surfing and wrote a lengthy reply to Janny's email.

430 pm: On the walk. I had planned to head to FitClub West to see what is the action in the parking lot across the street, but decided on another route.
Up Westview to Lynnhaven and south to Laurel and across Chatham. 'Asphalt Path' on Outer Park to Wiggins north. Then South Grand, Vine, Walnut north to the panhandle. East on Williams Blvd. Frontage Road and up the hill by the carillon. Up Parkview and down to 940: JUST ABOUT TWO HOURS AND TEN MINUTES: Listened to THE DEAD- 'Dick's Picks' and KING CRIMSON.

Home to hit the tub with three beers and finished 'CLUTTER AND BONE' (Hoopla). Listened to ARCHITECTURE OF HELSINKI, THE ARCS, and ARGENT.

Watched, 'TRIAL BY MEDIA- BIG DAN'S' (Netflix). In 1984 a woman is gang raped in a bar in New Bedford, MA. In the end, she dies before most of her rapists.

***A Five Beer Night***... Jerry Garcia's Last Interview (YouTube). The guy was a bona fide raconteur and stoned positive...rambling, garrulous yet still interesting.
