Up 7am: Cloudy with temps to upper 70's.
740am to the store and back by 825am: $96.
Watched Netflix disc 'THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP'. A fine film, but only very loosely based on the book. I thought both Robin Williams and John Lithgow were quite believable in two very difficult roles; with Robin Williams, Mary Beth Hurt, Glenn Close, John Lithgow, (very briefly) Hume Cronyn, and Jessica Tandy.
Then watched 'Siskel and Ebert's' review of the film on YouTube. Siskel loved it and said that the film 'showed the entire arc of a life- through the good and the bad'. Ebert felt the crowd of quirky characters did not resonate with him. All sizzle and no steak.
I got an email from one of the techs at Horizon Treadmill telling me that I didn't need a pin number to connect the Bluetooth option. I went downstairs and tried again, and although it did ask for a pin number, when I entered '1,2,3,4' it worked. I still need to find the volume control on the machine.
Watched an episode of 'THE BUSINESS OF DRUGS- Cannabis' (Netflix). You need at least a million dollars in start-up costs and this puts the 'mom and pop' operations and the minority owners at a severe disadvantage. When the dust settles there will probably be only a very few major players. Just as Coke and Pepsi were the giants of the soft drink industry and Ford and Chevy were the most important corporations in the car industry, pot profits will be reaped only by the richest firms. Taxes and regulations are really putting the brakes on growth. Obviously it should be made legal at the federal level.
140pm: Will get in a run on the treadmill (using the speakers on the machine) and then will take the bike to the credit union to deposit the reimbursement check from Aetna for dental work that I paid for.
2pm. The speakers connected flawlessly and I watched two episodes of GETTING DOUG WITH HIGH. 5 MILES at 3.1 pace, about an hour and 35 mins.
I got on the bike at 4pm and wanted to deposit the check at the credit union and then mail the Netflix disc and the request for a mail in ballot for the Nov. election, but it started to sprinkle rain, so I dropped the mail at the box by Walgreens.
Home in 10 mins. Storm blew over without any real rain, but I had a cup of instant downstairs and listened to MARCO DUB INFECTION and LIVE DEAD on tape. And read more RUSSO.
In the tub with 'STRAIGHT MAN' and listening TO SONNY LANDRETH, THE SONICS, THE STOOGES 'Search and Destroy'.
Watched episode 1 or season 1 'HUNTERS' (Amazon Prime). It's 1977 and a secret group in NYC schemes to kill Nazis; with Al Pacino and Dylan Baker. An odd tone, but I will see more of this series.
Then 'INSIDE THE WORLD'S TOUGHEST PRISONS- Poland' (Netflix). The entire 'jail procedure' seems to be designed to prevent inmates from connecting with the gang called, 'The Grypsers'. This is an ancient criminal organization that even has their own dialect or slang and composes 70% of Poland's prison population.
