Saturday, The Fourth of July, 2020.

Up 645am: Sunny, humid with temps to about 90.

Watched Netflix disc 'A SECRET'.  The secret is that Dad tried to deny his Jewishness during the war and had another wife and 'favorite' son, but they were murdered at Auschwitz. The corrosive effects of a toxic secret that is never addressed is the theme of this amazing film; with Cecile de France, Patrick Bruel, Ludivine Sagnier, Julie Depardieu, and Mathieu Amalric..

***BEEPING NOISE- 910-920am. I had left the Baby Boom on all night and it was alerting that the battery was low. It took too long to locate the 'beeps' because they were almost a minute apart. I thought that I might have to call the fire department, but clearer heads prevailed.

***At noon I water the front flowers.

Watched 'MORVERN CALLAR' (Kanopy). The quintessential Christmas Day surprise. Morvern awakens to find her boyfriend has committed suicide and left a note telling her that 'it seemed like the right thing to do'. Then she and her best friend take a vacation to Spain where she uses her boyfriend's bank card. He also left his unpublished novel and she claims authorship and later gets a $100,000 deal. He mentioned in his suicide note that he wrote the novel for her. The biggest mystery is what was Morvern's relationship like with her boyfriend before that shocking Christmas morning. And the grisly dismemberment aside, he did mention in his suicide note that he wrote the novel for her, so one could say that she fully took advantage of his wish.

My post for the film at Kanopy:

"I think the biggest mystery of the film is what was Morvern's relationship like with her boyfriend before that shocking Christmas morning. Aside from the grisly dismemberment, Morvern acted fairly rationally considering her age and economic background, and he did mention in his suicide note that he wrote the novel for her, so one could say that she took full advantage of his offer."

Then I watched the next episode of 'BOSCH' (Amazon Prime).

250pm: PC is 'Off' and preparing for a walk to the Wabash PO to mail back the disc.

325pm. Parkview, Oakmont, Country Club. Chatham South to Wabash PO box. Back west at Iles, then north on Golf, Oakmont, Parkview to 940. 2 HRS. 20 MINS. Mp3. JADE WARRIOR, 2 first JETHRO TULL albums, JOHN HIATT.

In the tub. BAND OF SKULLS, THE Kills, and listened to OFF CAMERA- Ethan Hawke. Reading reviews on the Internet of O-Zone and BLUE CALHOUN, Paul Theroux and Reynolds Price.

Watched 'KATIE SAYS GOODBYE' (Amazon Prime). A waitress in a New Mexico truck-stop takes up with a taciturn and menacing mechanic. When he learns that she's hooking on the side, she tries to quit trade, yet evil fate intervenes. In the end, she melodramatically puts it behind her and cheerfully hitchhikes into the sunrise. The film is a chilling, yet realistic glimpse into the world of a vulnerable young woman who learns to trade sex for money; with Olivia Cooke, Mary Steenburgen, Chris Lowell, Mireille Enos, Keir Gilchrist, and Jim Belushi.

Then the next 'DR. G- MEDICAL EXAMINER (Amazon Prime). A man is thought to be a hit and run, but he just died to alcoholic shock. An 88 year old woman dies when she falls and hits her head on the stairs. The ME proved that it wasn't an assault, but merely a fall. The woman had problems with a recent eye surgery and had vision problems. A 35 year old mentally challenged man collapses and dies at his birthday party. He had a very large brain tumor.
