Su 7/26/20- Biked North of Stuart Park
Su 7/26/20
Up 710am: Hot and nasty. Temp already at 80 and will climb to mid 90's later. AC 'On' all day.
I entered 'THE COSMIC RAPE' by Theodore Sturgeon and noticed that three entries from 'THE CHEESE STANDS ALONE' had been entered in error on my blog 'BOOKS RECENTLY READ'. I made the correction.
Watched 'ASH WEDNESDAY' (Amazon Prime). Set in Hell's Kitchen, 1983; a young man seems to have come back from the dead. Three years earlier he killed three men who were going to kill his older brother, Fran. The local priest and Fran made it look as if he was killed and his body was thrown in the Hudson. He was supposed to never come back to the neighborhood again, but he felt that he must at least try to reconnect with his wife. Not the best, but certainly worth a look; with Edward Burns (he directed the film), Elijah Wood, Rosario Dawson, and Oliver Platt.
While writing the notes on the film I found a Rami Malek movie, 'BUSTER'S MAL HEART' that I hadn't seen. A very minor character in 'ASH WEDNESDAY' just happened to be in the Malek picture.
A 'cult classic of the future' that flirts with themes of Unreality, Alternative Universes, and Wormholes with a 'Fargo' tone. A family man that works nights at a hotel in rural Montana might be losing his mind or maybe a strange acquaintance has revealed to him why he seems 'unable to gain any traction'. There is a bug or fault in our cosmic system and the very nature of reality has been affected; with Rami Malek, DJ Qualls, and Lin Shaye.
130pm: Preparing to venture into the intense heat for a long bike ride- north on the newer section of bike trail beginning at Westside Church and extending beyond Stuart Park. Last night I noticed that my right ankle seems swollen, so this will give me another day of 'walking rest'. No pain and I still have a full range of motion- or as much as I usually have.
150pm. On the bike across Monroe at Fairway, under building, Lawrence, Durkin, across Vets at Cider Mill Lane and down to the trail. Back the same way. I could see the end, but stopped in the shade to dial in THE SCREAMING BLUE MESSIAHS, KING CRIMSON. TWO HOUR RIDE.
Home to read STRAIGHT MAN and listen to a LIVE DEAD TAPE.
Did the Weekly Cleaning, then in the tub with more Russo and listening to LEON BRIDGES, THE JAM ~ 'Snap', a YouTube interview with Bill Hicks by Robert Klein...Hicks is fucking hilarious with his observational humor!
Watched the first of a two part series about Frank Sinatra, 'SINATRA- ALL OR NOTHING AT ALL' (Netflix)...Could not get into it, but it's in the queue for later.
Then, 'BONES OF BRUNDAGE' (Amazon Prime). A video valentine to the early 90's punk scene of Bakersfield, California. The title is taken from one of the main streets in Bakersfield. I saw a poster for THE CADILLAC TRAMPS in the documentary, but they were never mentioned. Was that an oversight or were The Tramps over-hyped?
