Up 730am: To 94 and mostly sunny...The Heat Is Here!
Watched 'GOOD PEOPLE' (Amazon Prime). A cash strapped American couple living in London rent their basement to a criminal. He dies of an overdose and they find a huge stash of money and drugs. No one claims it for days, so they assume it's theirs. Not a chance. A fairly 'by-the-numbers' domestic thriller; with Kate Hudson, James Franco, and Tom Wilkinson.
Then I watched 'THE HOUSE I LIVE IN' (YouTube). This was mentioned as one of the best documentaries about prison reform on a recent podcast and it's offered on YouTube in a collection of segments lasting a few minutes each.
And then a 28" lecture by David Simon, the creator of 'The Wire'. His talk was designed to draw attention to the inequality that is baked into the system. Capital is now so much stronger than labor that anything that turns a profit will be endorsed no matter how much it harms society. Positive benefits are not considered, only how much money can be made. Treating a social problem as a criminal problem is an ineffective strategy but because the criminal justice system creates jobs the negative aspects are ignored. Liberty vs. Collective Responsibility.
And then a 25" YouTube video on 'Origins of the War on Drugs'- author Johann Hari; 25". The 'War on Drugs' was always about race; blacks like Superman on drugs. He'll out work you for the job, Mexicans will smoke pot to outprduce you, THEY ARE THE ENEMY.
And finally 'Lynyrd Skynyrd The Last Stop- An Emma Harrington Documentary' (YouTube- 53"). Interviews with the people that helped at the fatal plane crash near the Mississippi Louisiana border.
4pm...Parkview, Wash. Pk., northside Williams Blvd frontage, Henrietta south and west on Laurel, Leland west to Wiggins. Through park and out duck path and back up street, Parkview down to 940. TWO HOURS.. Mp3. 'Lodger' ~ BOWIE, LIVE DEAD album, a disc that should have been VAN MORRISON, but was not.
Read DALEY in the living room for 30 mins. then in the tub with RED Fang, SPELLJAMMER, BELZEBONG.
I watched 'WITHOUT GORKY' (Netflix). The two grand daughters of famous artist, Arshile Gorky try to work through their feelings about their grandfather's suicide although his selfish act nearly destroyed their family. Very posh, upper-class and almost a parody of an English family of twits!
Then 'The Business of Drugs: Cocaine' (Netflix). I watched this to see if things had changed in Columbia since 'A FAINT COLD FEAR', the novel I'm reading by Robert Daley, but nothing has changed. There's just too much money involved.
