 Fr 1/1/2021- New Year's Day!

Up 825am: light freezing rain continues but only some ice on branches and power lines- to low 30's. This weather system could have been much worse.

***However, by late afternoon I had many large pine branches down in back from the weight of about an eighth of an inch of ice.

Watched 'SHOT CALLER' (Netflix). Another one that I'd seen before and nearly forgotten how great it was. I've seen dozens of 'Prison Films' and this was definitely at the extreme top of the heap. A happily married California stock broker drinks and drives slightly above the legal limit, runs a redlight, crashes, his friend dies, and he ends up in prison for life. But along the way, he becomes the undisputed head of the most powerful gang in the California state prison system; starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (GAME OF THRONES).

ON THE TREADMILL...4 Miles and finished the episode of 'Italian Heroin Rehab Scandal' that I began last night, and then more of the MICHAEL KOSTAS discussion with JOE ROGAN.

Then I watched 'THE OTHER SIDE' (First time on 'TUBI'- another free streaming service). A shocking 'warts and all' portrait of a poor, ignorant, and cross addicted family in very rural Louisiana. Somewhere between 'Reality TV' and 'Documentary Fiction', yet powerfully gritty and authentic. A couple of drunken old men sing the praises of Hilary Clinton, yet everyone agrees that Obama is the harbinger of 'The End of Times'. This is way before his era, but I bet all of these social and cultural Neanderthals are now Trumpsters; director, Roberto Minervini.

Spent some time creating a 'Watch List' at TUBI and then read for a while and then back ON THE Treadmill for A MILE AND A HALF... 30"...more KOSTAS/ROGAN.

***Bought 'EMPIRE OF THE SUMMER MOON' - (Amazon Kindle) and 'MOCKINGBIRD'- Walter Tevis (Amazon Kindle).

In the tub with RUSSO and PINK FLOYD, THE ONLY ONES, THE BEAT FARMERS, THE WHO.

Watched 'THE CULTURE HIGH' (Amazon Prime). Seven years old, so the doc is pretty out of date. Somewhat about the 'new' Marijuana Industry, but mostly about the failed War on Drugs. "Lobbyists are basically in the bribery business"..."Money in politics has changed everything. Whoever spends the most on a national or local election is the winner- regardless of party. Joe Rogan was one of the 'experts'.  The film advances the argument that the privately owned prison system encourages the lock up of far too many American citizens. The tax payer is on the hook for the operation of these prisons even if crime goes down. Since they are obligated to keep the jails at maximum occupancy, they go after the 'low hanging fruit'- the common drug user. Therefore, drugs must remain illegal even though marijuana is clearly NOT  a 'Scheduled I' Drug- same as heroin and cocaine.
