Fr 10/8/21- Mowed the Lawn

 Fr 10/8/21

915am. 405pm. 910pm.

Up 745am: Overcast to partly sunny with temps to upper 70's.

I attempted to watch 'CRUISING' (Kanopy), the Al Pacino film about a cop who goes undercover in NYC's lurid gay underground scene. Kanopy stopped to 'refresh' twice in twenty minutes so I gave up. No other subscription service is featuring the film. I then decided on 'A TAXI DRIVER' (Amazon Prime). This began as a goofy comedy about a foreign reporter who attempts to hire a taxi to drive him to Gwangju, South Korea from Seoul and soon the film switches gears and becomes an engaging  Action/Political Thriller. I knew nothing of the historical event, but in May of 1980 there was a massive protest in Gwangju, South Korea against the ruling military junta. Hundreds of demonstrators and spectators were killed and the government downplayed the violence and claimed it was the fault of 'outside communist agitators'. This incident marked a new beginning for South Korea's Democratization Movement.

Began the first episode of 'HOUSE OF SECRETS: The Burari Deaths' (Netflix). In 2018 eleven family members die in an apparent suicide/murder pact in Delhi, India.

230pm: PC is 'Off' and preparing to mow the lawn for the very last time this season.
245pm-345pm: Lawn- I would imagine that this is only the penultimate mow for the season, but I hope not.
415pm: Parkview,  Wash.Pk,  Wiggins, Outer Park, Lincoln,  Lealand,  Walnut, Wash. Pk northside, Up the hill,  Parkview, Fairway,  and up to 940...ONE HOUR AND 45 MINS...Mp3..'Disraeli Gears', DON CABALLERO.

620pm: In the tub with DELILLO and listening to MOTORHEAD, 'Bad Moon Rising'- SONIC YOUTH.

Watched Netflix disc 'NIGHT AT THE GOLDEN EAGLE'.   I liked the fiercely Independent 'Melodrama of The Gutter vibe of the film. It reminded me of the 'Kitchen Sink Realism' of a bunch of British films of the early 60's.

A review from TV GUIDE MAGAZINE that I can sort of understand: "While the homeless, the mentally ill and the generally downtrodden are scattered about like so much shabby furniture, Rifkin has no qualms about wallowing in their filth, but he misses the tragedy of their lives -- just as he misses everything else." Starring James Caan, Natasha Lyonne, Ann Magnuson, Vinnie Jones, and Ron Jeremy; Adam Rifkin- dir.
I'll save the Bonus Features for tomorrow morning.
