Th 10/21/21-Elantra Dead In Garage
945am. 1235pm (a pinch). 245pm. 10pm (a pinch).
Up 745am: Cloudy, breezy, and much cooler- barely to 60.
Down the 'Reddit Rabbit Hole'and then I watched 'THE FATHER WHO MOVES MOUNTAINS' (Netflix). I had this in the queue for a long time because I thought it would be too corny because it was supposed to be about a father who fights to find his son after the boy and his girlfriend are lost in a remote mountainous area in Romania. The father and his ex-wife might be the most disagreeable people I've seen portrayed in a long time. Their arrogance, selfishness, and plain stubbornness was kind of a switch from the 'goody-goody' mom and dad that are usually depicted in such a dire situation. Also, the movie offers a subtle and even more interesting secondary theme about who holds the power to get things done in an authoritarian country. I can definitely see why people hated the film because most people can't stand a film if they don't like (love?) the characters. I don't mind an accurate, 'warts and all' presentation of a dislikeable character because the overwhelming majority of people in real life are NOT enjoyable, pleasant, or nice.
Began 'SHUMACHER' (Netflix). Michael Shumacher, Formula 1 racing sensation and I can't wait to see what his downfall is because there's got to be something. There really hasn't been a 'downfall', but he did injure himself in some kind of skiing accident. Twenty years ago he was the highest paid athlete in the world and the first sportsman to be worth more than a billion.
205pm: I cut it off at 54" and I'll finish the rest when I get to Planet Fitness. 3pm: To Planet Fitness and I hope it's a dead battery.
Right to the treadmill for 6 MILES AT 3.6 PACE AND 0.50 SLANT. I finished the 'Schumacher Valentine ' and all he did was die. It was an accident off the track but I'll have to check Wikipedia to find the precise cause of death. The film was so coy and vague. Then 'FIRE IN PARADISE ' (NETFLIX). 45 min. documentary about 'The Campfire Fire' in California.
Arranged a jump start for 9am-10am tomorrow on the Chromebook, but in 10 mins. the guy was out front.Got jumped, let it charge for 10 mins then over to Family Dollar/Fairhills for toilet seat (wrong size. It's not round), 9 Lives cans, and 4 pks. incense.
***Battery died when I got back to the car. I Borrowed the clerk's phone and another tow/repair guy arrived in less than 10 mins. I didn't even have my phone. This guy recommended stopping by AUTOZONE on MacArthur. He said the battery was bad, but a new one for my car was $200- The Elantra requires more electricity? I said I'd check with the dealership and get back to him.Drove MacArthur to Rt.72 west to Wabash, Korea, Monroe to give the battery a large charge. Do speeds of 60 and 70 mph charge more than 30-40 mph? I hope the former is true.
745pm: In the tub with UPDIKE and listening to ERIC DOLPHY,
Thinking about what to do about the car. The dealership must be advised of recent events and if the charge doesn't hold through the night, then I'll give the 'free' Hyundai service a shot at charging the car. Three calls to State Farm Emergency in 24 hrs. might set off a red flag.
I watched another episode of 'BAD SPORT- Fallen Idol' (Netflix). The most popular and well respected man in South Africa, after Nelson Mandela, is the captain of their international cricket team, Hansie Cronje, but he was fixing games for cash."...takes us on a journey of what greed can mean for a man who could otherwise do no wrong".
