Saturday, 12/25- Xmas Day
835am. 1140am (a pinch). 730pm.Up 7am: Mostly cloudy with temps to mid 50's.
Watched Netflix disc 'THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK'. Well worth a look even if you have never heard of the series. The film is a prequel or backstory of mobster Tony Soprano's early life growing up in a New Jersey crime family. The film begins in a cemetery with a narrator, Tony Soprano's nephew, who is talking 'beyond the grave' and casually mentions that Tony choked him to death...but that was much later; with Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta, and Michael Gandolfini (as Teenage Tony Soprano). It's got some interesting scenes set during the Newark race riots and pulls no punches in demonstrating the extreme bigotry of the white, Italian mob bosses.
I got this disc because Joey Diaz was in the film. He's a minor character but injects some funny moments..."Have you got diarrhea?..."White Flight! White Flight!".
Watched the last 45" of 'EMPTY METAL' (Kanopy). I have no idea what the film meant but interesting scenes involving drone surveillance, alternate reality, a punk rock trio as assassins, and much more.
The film was shot on the Big Cypress Indian Reservation in south central Florida about 80 miles west of Boca Raton.
1pm: PC is 'Off' and preparing for a walk on the treadmill.
115pm: 5 MILES AT 3.6 PACE AND 0.50 SLANT and watched a YouTube discussion of the film 'EMPTY METAL'. I had to turn it off due to very poor quality recording. I finished SHANE GILLIS on THO VON and more of GILLIS again on a WHISKEY GINGER.
4pm-445pm: I called Janny. Jon and Jamie are both anti-vaxxers and their wives are pro-vaxxers. How does that work? It's going to be mid to late January before all of us will be able to celebrate Xmas together. Jon seems to be out of the woods with his Covid, but Jamie has serious health issues, yet he refuses to get the jab. "If not for yourself, do it for your kids".
455pm: 2 MILES AT 3.6 PACE AND 0.50 SLANT and began TIM DILLON on WHISKEY GINGER.
545pm: In the tub with 'THE HISTORY OF DISEASE ' and listening to GARY WRIGHT.
Noticed 'MONSTER' (Netflix) and will watch it again. I had forgotten how powerful this film was. The movie offers a disturbing yet empathetic profile of an unlikeable and possibly evil person; with Charlize Theron, Christina Ricci, and Bruce Dern. Shot in Central Florida and won 1 Oscar, 30 wins & 26 nominations.
