815am. 1050am (a pinch). 730pm.
Up 630am: We got about an inch and a half of snow last night. Today it was cloudy with temps to the low 30's. I spent about fifteen minutes shoveling the walk and the driveway before my first cup of coffee.
Watched 'A SINGLE MAN' (Hoopla) that I borrowed yesterday. It was to be the last night in the life of a man who is mourning the sudden death of his lover. He makes a new friend, reconnects with an old one, and finally achieves peace, then he has a heart attack and dies. A deeply moving and intelligent portrayal of a gay man. From a novel by Christopher Isherwood and directed by Tom Ford. Nominated for 1 Oscar; 39 wins & 59 nominations.
***Quote from the film that sums up the major theme perfectly:
" Let's leave the Jews out of this just for a moment. Let's think of another minority. One that... One that can go unnoticed if it needs to. There are all sorts of minorities, blondes for example... Or people with freckles. But a minority is only thought of as one when it constitutes some kind of threat to the majority. A real threat or an imagined one. And therein lies the fear. If the minority is somehow invisible, then the fear is much greater. That fear is why the minority is persecuted. So, you see there always is a cause. The cause is fear. Minorities are just people. People like us." Filmed in Whiting Woods, Glendale, CA.; with Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode, and Nicholas Hoult.
Next up 'TOP GUN' (Netflix). This is actually more gay than 'A SINGLE MAN' and so absurd I might not finish it.
1230pm: Shut it down at 44" to prepare for a walk on the treadmill and more of 'THE ANDY WARHOL DIARIES' (Netflix).
1240pm: FIVE MILES AT 4.0 PACE AND 1.0 SLANT and watched the next episode of 'THE ANDY WARHOL DIARIES' (NETFLIX), more of TOM PAPA on J.R.E.
***I finished reading 'FALLEN' and the 2 novels that I ordered arrived; 'PEN 33' and 'THREE SECONDS'. I began 'PEN 33'.
435pm: TWO MILES AT 4.0 PACE AND 1.0 SLANT and more TOM PAPA on J.R.E.
520pm: In the tub with 'PEN 33' and listening to KEITH JARRETT.
Watched 'TRUE BLUE' (Amazon Prime). A boozy Canadian police detective is involved in a case involving a found severed hand, but where's the rest of her? There's kinky S & M sex, political corruption, Chinese gangs, and a feme fatale with a heart of stone. It reminded me of a sleazy sixties detective novel and I sort of liked it; with Tom Berenger and some other people . Filmed on the mean streets of Toronto, Ontario.
