 Mo 3/14/22

815am. 1105am (3 hits/bong). 140pm (a pinch). 730pm.

Up 640am: Partly sunny and breezy with temps to lower 60's.

I spent a little time reading the notes on my last trip to Phoenix in April of 2017.

Quote:  "The whole trip was a moderate bummer, yet slightly better than expected. I certainly would not want to stay any longer than I did, and I really never want to go back." It made me realize that I am more than ready for a decent va-kay to someplace that I really want to visit. I swear I will make it to the American Northwest at some point in the future.

Borrowed 'THE DUCHESS' (Hoopla).  An interesting film about a very modern relationship within the nobility of 18th century Britain. The Duchess of Devonshire, The Duke, and his mistress all live together and create their own scene within the 'One Percenters' of the era. The Duke did whatever he wanted because he had no need to make deals because, as the most senior noble in the realm, he runs nearly everything; with Keira Knightley, Ralph Fiennes, Dominic Cooper, Charlotte Rampling, and Hayley Atwell. I had seen this one before, but it was well worth a second look. Based on actual events, I wouldn't mind reading a book about these characters in English history.

***I ordered 'GEORGIANA: DUCHESS OF DEVONSHIRE' from Amazon: $6.00.

Began 'THE BANG BANG CLUB' (Amazon Prime).

I shut it down at 43" to prepare for the walk. The plan is to rake the front lawn when I get back.

1250pm: Parkview, Wash.Pk down the hill, northside, Henrietta, Lowell, Outer Park, Wiggins, up the hill, Parkview, Fairway, and up to 940...Mp3...ART BLAKEY, KING CRIMSON, 91.9 NPR...TWO HOURS.

250pm-350pm: Raked the gum balls. Ripped the earbuds apart when they got tangled in the rake. You had to have been there.

Reading 'PEN 33'

45pm: In the tub with 'PEN 33' and 'Weight Training'- my over-sized book on the subject and listening to DON NIX; JOHN MAYALL.

Watched 'CITY OF JOY' (Netflix).  'City of Joy' is the name of a hospital in Eastern Congo for women who have survived sexual violence. Rape was commonly used as a tool of war in the Congo during the mid 90's.  The post trauma of the rape destroyes the lives of the women and their families disown them. Villages are abandoned.  Wealthy international mining corporations employ armies of poverty stricken mercenaries to protect the mining operations. Metals used in computers and cell phones make it worth their while to continue to plunger and never stop the armed political strife.

Shut it down at 41" to finish 'THE BANG BANG CLUB' (Netflix). A fictional portrayl of five photo journalists who covered the violent riots and protests over apartheid that rocked South Africa during the 90's. Is the photographer's job solely to record an event or does he have an obligation to offer assistance if necessary? Not a bad film, just not noteworthy- '48 Metascore'; with Ryan Phillippe and Malin Akerman (BILLIONS).
