655am (1). 1010am (1/2). 1145am (1). 655pm (1).
Up 520am: Mostly sunny with temps to mid to upper 90's.
Watched Netflix disc 'NIGHTMARE ALLEY'. Set in the American Depression Era of the late 1930's, a wily carny learns the ropes of 'mentalism' and teams up with a duplicitous female psychiatrist to take down a rich mark.
'Geek'- a performer at a carnival or circus whose show consists of bizarre or grotesque acts. The trick is that the person in power uses booze and drugs to hook the mark into agreeing to bite the heads off of chickens. In the last scene of the movie the 'hero' is enticed into becoming a geek, and he exclaims..."I was made for it"; Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, Mary Steenburgen, David Strathairn, and Tim Blake Nelson. Directed by Guillermo del Toro. A very deep and heavy movie and I would like to read the novel (I ordered it later in the day).
***At about 920am the screen 'color/pixilated' and the disc was unwatchable. When I went back to Windows, there was minor horizontal pixilation. When I did a restart the problem was fixed.
***AC 'On' at 1015am.
And then more of 'HOUSE OF GUCCI' (Amazon Prime); with Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto, Jack Huston, and Salma Hayek. Directed by Ridley Scott.
I ordered the novel 'NIGHTMARE ALLEY' by Lindsay Gresham on Amazon. Due to my credits, it only cost four cents. Where's the credit coming from and how do I get more?
1125am: PC is 'Off' and preparing for an afternoon at Planet Fitness. After the workout the plan is to get a new modem at Best Buy on the way home.
1155am: To Planet Fitness. 45"Cross. 45"Treadmill. 30"Bike. 30"Treadmill. 30"Cross and finished 'THE HOUSE OF GUCCI' (AMAZON PRIME), an hour bio of DAVID BOWIE on Amazon Prime, and more of MARK NORMAND on LEX FRIDMAN.
325pm: To Best Buy. $200 modem
440pm: In the tub with ISAACS and listening to TRAFFIC; 'Hyde Park '69 - BLIND FAITH.
Watched 'THE KITCHEN' (Tubi-TV). The wives of some low level criminal types take over the 'family rackets' while the men do some time in prison. The women are far more successful, yet things go awry when the men are released early. It's kind of a droll gangster flick with women in the 'tough guy' roles; with Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, Elisabeth Moss, Domhnall Gleeson, and Margo Martindale. I shut it down with about 30 minutes left to go.
