Watched 'COCAINE BEAR' (Peacock-TV). A wildly hilarious tale of a bear who ingests a whole lot of cocaine and then attacks a whole lot of people in a remote area near a national park in northern Georgia. It's violent, bloody, and hysterically funny. One night in September of 1985 a drug trafficker threw duffle bags full of cocaine out of a cargo plane on a smuggling run from South America. He hoped that he could recover it later, but he died when he jumped out of the plane and his parachute failed to open; with Keri Russell, O'Shea Jackson Jr. (Ice Cube's son), Isiah Whitlock Jr., Margo Martindale, and Ray Liotta (his final film). Directed by Elizabeth Banks and written by Jimmy Warden. Filmed in Ireland.
'54' Metascore. Some reviewers loved it, others hated it.
Boston Globe: "This is an unapologetic audience-pleaser, though it’s not for the squeamish. Say no to drugs. Say yes to “Cocaine Bear".”
San Francisco Chronicle: "Cocaine Bear is a movie that will appeal mostly to people who think it’s hilarious to get their dog stoned. If you’re someone who loves to sit on an old couch with a bong between your legs, crying with laughter as your dog bangs into furniture, “Cocaine Bear” might be your “Citizen Kane".”
Then, "COCAINE BEAR: The Real Story"- A 50 minute documentary about the actual incident and the legend that has grown up around it. In the late 1970's Andrew Thornton was a member of Lexington, Kentucky's upper class who became a major drug trafficker. He flew cargo planes filled with cannabis and cocaine from South America to Kentucky and just for the thrill of doing something dangerous. It's still unclear why Thornton dropped the bags of coke or why his chute failed to open. A bear was found dead near a discarded duffle bag that contained traces of cocaine and the coroner determined that the bear ingested about three grams of cocaine and then died. Authorities believe that friends of Thornton's went to the site and recovered the drugs but there is no way that the bear ate seventy-five pounds of cocaine.
