 Tu 4/4/23

715am (B). 955am (2-B). 215pm (2-B). 440pm (2-B). 715pm (2-B).

Up 540am: Cloudy & breezy with temps to lower 80's.

***Today pain is not an issue although the left side of my face is slightly swollen. There is an obvious infection and it seems that the antibiotics are working well. The pill schedule is morning (6am),  afternoon (2pm), and evening (8pm).

Watched 'EARTHQUAKE BIRD' (Netflix). An odd film about a young Swedish woman living as an expat in Japan. She meets her photographer 'soul-mate' who turns out to be a serial killer. And along the way she also meets an American woman who has eyes on her boyfriend and this woman disappears. The investigation into the missing American woman is how the movie begins and the story is told in flashbacks. The movie is less about the mystery of the missing woman and the possibility of a serial killer, and more about a character study of a very reclusive young woman (and an unreliable narrator) with deep psychological scars; with Alicia Vikander and Riley Keough. Parts of the movie were filmed on Sado Island which is off Japan's west coast.

I watched a very interesting YouTube video that reviewed 'THE EARTHQUAKE BIRD' as a metaphor for the economic boom that took place in Japan during the late 1980's. Japanese goods were being sold in every corner of the world and the money (and credit) poured into the country. The rich bought land and stocks, but within ten years the bubble had burst and the extreme excess wealth disappeared.

Began 'CLOSE TO HOME: MURDER IN THE COALFIELD' (Netflix).  A fairly compelling police/ mystery/ drama that I'll watch in the evenings for the next couple of days. Shut it down 26 minutes into episode #2.
