Th 6/29/23- Massive City Wide Power Outage
740am (2-B). 1105am (2-B).

Up 545am: "There is a marginal risk of severe weather today". Temps to about 90 and we still have haze from the Canadian wildfires. I heard that in Chicago today the air quality is like smoking seven cigarettes. 

***I put up the new garden hose stand. 'No assembly required' but it was still a bit of a problem since the area that it was mounted on was not entirely level. Will work just fine.
Within an hour it began raining. Very odd- sun shining through the haze and a gentle rain was falling. Just enough to wet things down but not a heavy soaking, but more rain & storms are in the forecast. 

Watched 'PERDIDA' (Netflix). Fourteen years ago a young girl went missing in southern Argentina. She was at a local bar with friends and was never seen again. An intrepid female cop, and friend of the missing girl, will stop at nothing to find out what really happened to her  friend.  Filmed in Buenos Aires, Federal District, Argentina & Patagonia, Argentina. Patagonia is the geographical region that encompasses the southern end of South America, governed by Argentina and Chile.  Beautiful locations, yet a fairly standard story of 'the horrors of human trafficking'.  

I got an email from Janny asking if I had gotten a reply to Monday's Chat. I did not, but I said we could meet tomorrow late morning or early afternoon at Westview. 

1040am: PC is 'Off' and will do five miles on the treadmill.

 1110am:   FIVE MILES AT 4.1 PACE AND ZERO SLANT; began THEY MIGHT BE DRUNK. 
***I did 55 minutes and at 1215pm I got an Emergency Text Alert and I heard sirens outside.
***40 outages & 43% of Springfield is without power. By late afternoon the percentage rose to almost 50%.

A big branch fell and blocked Westview across from the house that the black guy visits every morning at 6am. 1250pm:  Two cars stopped and cleared a path. It looks like the worst has passed. 
2pm-320pm: I walked the neighborhood and lots of tree limbs down & a couple of streets were blocked:  Westview & Lynnhaven.  Two telephone poles snapped at Kenyon & Parkview. 

440pm: Called Janny and they have power. Jamie's family is in North Dakota and had some big limbs down on Glenwood. Jon's family is without power and they're going to Jan & Joe's.

Reading  'THE MORMON MURDERS' & cleared out some pine branches from the back yard.

815pm: Utility trucks arrived at Kenyon & Westview.

Th 6/29/23- POWER OUTAGE

 I was on the treadmill around noon. First I got a text message on my phone, then the sirens went off, and within a minute the power was off.

The power outage lasted from 1215pm on Thursday through 10pm on Tuesday evening...Happy July 4th!

Definition of a derecho

A derecho (pronounced similar to "deh-REY-cho" in English, or pronounced phonetically as " ") is a widespread, long-lived wind storm. Derechos are associated with bands of rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms variously known as bow echoes, squall lines, or quasi-linear convective systems.

Th 6/29/23 continued...In bed by 10pm and reading using the 'windup' flashlight. 

While making dinner by candlelight I poured water on top of the clear glass lid of the skillet. I couldn't see it in 'the romantic candle light'.

We 4/23/25- Gummy 645am {I took 1/4 of a 200 mg of 'DIET SMOKE' gummy: 50 mg total}. 650am (1-LB: Cookie Bread). 910am (1/2-LB: Cookie Bread).  1220pm (1-LB: Panama Punch). 535pm (1-LB: Permanent Marker). 815pm (1-LB: Permanent Marker).  Up 545am: A mix of suny & clouds with temps to about 80. Finished 'SIGNS' (Netflix). Clearly the drama hasn't ended, and I hope there will be infinite new seasons. {No such luck. I couldn't find anything about a third season}.
