Watched 'CORSAGE' (Kanopy). The film is set in 1878, yet it references 'electric lights' and 'moving pictures'-1) 1882 Edison formed Edison Electric Illuminating Company, but only half of the homes in the US had electric power by 1925. I would guess that Britain would even be further behind than the States in establishing their power grid. 2) First paying customers at a theater happened in 1895. These 'time inconsistencies' are probably to show how far the empress was ahead of the curve. She's very open to new ideas and concepts. The movie is a kind of encapsulation of brief scenes within the life of The Empress and there is very little plot. It's all about how Empress Elisabeth chafes at her exalted position within the monarchy and the limited social expectations of the late 19th century. Sometimes the real time frame is completely ignored and in one scene a minstrel plays 'As Tears Go By' by the Stones. The real Empress didn't commit suicide but was assassinated by an anarchist; with Vicky Krieps (Empress Elisabeth) & Florian Teichtmeister (The Emperor)...."The lion doesn't lose sleep over the opinions of the sheep"...Nominated for 1 BAFTA Award; 18 wins & 42 nominations. "76" Metascore. This was a truly fine film.
***The Austrian actor who played The Emperor was found guilty of possessing child pornography and this tainted the release of the film. "A film that is directed by a woman and also features a feminist icon is almost derailed by a man"- this paraphrases what the actress who played The Empress felt about the controversy.
The plan was to begin raking the the pine cones and gumballs in the back, but I've lost the will. Maybe later...{Nada as well}
Began 'MARLOWE' (Amazon Prime). I didn't intend to watch the whole thing, but I got into it. Marlowe is hired by a mysterious woman who wants him to find a man. The authorities believe that this guy was killed in a hit and run accident. The man's skull was run over, but Marlowe's employer says she saw him after the car accident. It's a convoluted plot that involves mother and daughter intrigue and lots of Mexican heroin; with Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, Jessica Lange, Danny Huston, and Alan Cumming. Directed by Neil Jordan. "41" Metascore. The film is based on the 2014 novel 'THE BLACK-EYED BLONDE' by Benjamin Black, and not one of Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe series.

Finished 'ARE YOU GARBAGE?' and then more of the ANDY SUMMERS interview.
More of 'STRANGER' (Netflix). I finished episode #4 and I don't know how much longer I can go. It's a real slice of contemporary Korean life, but the drama/ storyline is too complex. Maybe something new tomorrow.
