Watched 'CHARACTER' (Amazon Prime). A terrific 'father and son' cautionary tale of a very strained family relationship. A young man in 1920's Rotterdam is being questioned by the police about the murder of his father. The film is a flashback about the boy, his relationship to his unbelievably distant parents, his struggle to make it in the world, and how he has been arrested for the murder of his father. Dad was the city bailiff and it was his job to evict the poor and he was the perfect man for the job because he showed absolutely no mercy. It seems that the boy's parents believe in 'Tough Love' and the tougher the better. I liked this one. Won 1 Oscar; 18 wins & 7 nominations.
***AC is 'ON' by 10am; just too humid.
Watched 'THE WORLD'S GREATEST FAIR' (Amazon Prime). The saga of 'The Louisiana Purchase Exposition' or as it's more commonly known as 'The St. Louis World's Fair of 1904'. The late 19th century and early 20th century were the defining era for the concept of a 'World's Fair'. The mayor of St. Louis was trying to 'beat' the popularity of The Chicago's World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. Many people stayed at the fair for weeks to see all of the exhibits. FEATURES & EVENTS: The world's largest ferris wheel, introduced the 'baby incubator', the wireless telephone, early fax, X-ray machine, electric streetcar, personal automobile (over 100 car manufacturers), an 'Airship Contest', 1904 Summer Olympics, Anglo-Boer War Concession, Dr. Pepper and Puffed Wheat cereal were first introduced at the fair. An interesting and nostalgic documentary from 2004.
