Watched 'SNIPER' (Netflix). A macho sniper and his wimpy spotter wreak havoc in Panama. They are to take out a presidential candidate and the drug cartel boss who bought the election. An ode to phony alpha males who fervently believe that it's a good thing to have more guns than sense.  My first 'thumbs down' in a long time (although I watched the whole thing); with Tom Berenger, Billy Zane, J.T. Walsh. "45" Metascore I'd give it a failing grade or do it over.

Baltimore Sun: "It's for those of us for whom killing people with high-powered guns in the movies is not only as good as sex but maybe better -- a sacrament for our age... [A] poorly written, badly directed film."  

Watched 'THIN ICE' (Amazon Prime). An elaborate insurance scam set in Kenosha, Wisconsin in the winter and concerns a violin worth over a million dollars; with  Greg Kinnear, Billy Crudup, Alan Arkin, David Harbour, Bob Balaban. "60" Metascore, and I would give it a "72" Metascore.

Wrote a brief chat and prepared for the doctor visit.

1pm- 245pm: To Springfield Clinic; 800 N. 1st- 2nd floor. She said that I had the 'dick rod' procedure because I had blood in my urine. I wish I had asked what caused the blood? The test didn't prove a thing. And a different procedure is used to go up into the bladder to see if the patient would benefit from surgery. This would involve removing part of the prostate to make urination easier. I don't want that, or any test that involves pain. I had to give blood and urine. If there is nothing they will notify me by mail. So, I'll be very apprehensive if I see a call from Springfield clinic in the next few days.

More 'GRAVEYARD' (Netflix). I shut it down 19 minutes into episode #2. It looks like each episode is a different story that shares the theme of  the oppression of Turkish women. I'm in for at least one more.

We 8/15/18 Up 820am; overcast, clammy, and threatening. Rain predicted all day and tomorrow- none so far; 915am. Still unseasonably warm with a mix of sun & clouds. Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80".
