Borrowed 'FORBIDDEN FILMS' (Hoopla).

Watched 'CALIGULA: The Ultimate Cut' (Kanopy). I shut down the film at 54 minutes and still two hours to go. Lurid to the point of silliness and full frontal nudity doesn't make it any less hokey.  If I continue, I'll probably skim and skip.

 Watched 'WHEN THE WORLD BREAKS' (Amazon Prime).  Many stars & media personalities talk of their personal experiences of the Great Depression; Art Linkletter, Hugh Downs, Ray Bradburry, Phyllis Diller. One of the experts talked of the importance of 'shame' during the Great Depression. Even FDR couldn't understand why people were not rioting in the streets, but the reason was that 'the working man' seemed to blame himself for his economic plight. Or is this a convenient way for right-wingers to keep spreading the lie that any form of collectivism (socialism) is evil and only you are solely responsible for your station in life. 

Finished 'CALIGULA: The Ultimate Cut' (Kanopy). I watched approximately the first hour and then the final hour of this three hour opus. It comes off as a star-studded stage play based on a fable and not much concerned with viracity; Malcolm McDowell, Helen Mirren, Peter O'Toole, John Gielgud. Screenplay by Gore Vidal. This is essentially a 'recreation' of the late 70's film and was rereleased in 2023. "62" Metascore and I would go to "73". Helen Mirren once described the film as 'an irresistible mix of art and genitals". 

1130am: I had hoped to walk outside, but rain (the possibility; never happened) is moving this way so it's another day on the treadmill.

12pm: FIVE MILES TO 4.0 PACE AND ZERO SLANT;  TUESDAYS WITH STORIES;  more of ARI SHAFFIR on THEO VON.

We 8/15/18 Up 820am; overcast, clammy, and threatening. Rain predicted all day and tomorrow- none so far; 915am. (All day and barely a sprinkle- it was happening all around us, but nothing here) Watched  'SUSPECT ZERO' (Amazon Prime) Aaron Eckhart/ Ben Kingsley/ Carrie Anne Moss.  Eckhart plays a disgraced FBI agent who is being fed information by a serial killer. Seems to be Ben Kingsley, but he's not the killer, he's an ex-agent who can do 'remote viewing'. Still unseasonably warm with a mix of sun & clouds. Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80". Borrowed 'HOLY COW' and 'TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH' from Hoopla to meet my quota for September. Watched 'HOLY COW' (Hoopla). A troubled teen and his young sister try to make a go of it on their farmstead dairy after their father dies. It's got a strange tone and far from an average 'coming of age' tale.
