Watched 'HOLY SPIDER' (Kanopy). The film is set in Mashhad, Iran which is in the far northeastern part of the country near the border with Turkmenistan. It's based on an actual serial killer of prostitutes who operated in Mashhad between 2000 and 2001. While at trial the killer was very popular and many felt that he was 'cleansing the city of corrupt women'. The filmmaker (directed and co-written by Ali Abbasi) claims that he wasn't just making a film about a serial killer, but he was trying to describe a 'serial killer society' and he portrays the deep and fundamental fear and distrust of women that is always present in deeply fundamentalist Muslim areas of the world. {Oddly enough, women also seem to get short shrift in fundamentalist Christian areas of the world}. 22 wins & 35 nominations. "66" Metascore and I would rate it at "83". From SCREEN DAILY:

"Abbasi has made an Iranian noir which, even though it dares to poke around the spiritual capital of Iran with its largest mosque in the world, isn’t an assault on the Iranian government per se, but a crime thriller which shows how far fundamentalist morality can be twisted and how banal the face of evil really is."

Watched 'BULLET HEAD' (Amazon Prime). After a botched robbery three thieves hide in an abandoned warehouse. Unbeknownst to them, it's a place where very lucrative dog fights are held and they stumble upon a huge stash of cash. Each of the characters tell a revealing story about themselves; 1) Freshwater fish story. 2) Truffle dog story. 3) Dad murdered my dog. An oddly interesting story, but probably too much canine carnage for viewers who are dog lovers. The title refers to the nickname for 'pitbulls'; with Adrien Brody, John Malkovich, Rory Culkin, Antonio Banderas. "51" Metascore and I would go to "75".   

12pm: The PC is 'Off' and the plan is to do the weights and then visit Planet Fitness. Tomorrow I will attempt to start the lawn mower and give the grounds a trim.

They have the body cremated at the local pet cemetery. It's odd and strains between comedy and drama; with Judy Greer, Natasha Lyonne, Ron Livingston, Aubrey Plaza, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen. "34" Metascore and I agree that it wasn't a very good movie, but it had a few chuckles and I would go to "72";  BERT KREISCHER on 'WE MIGHT BE DRUNK; watched 'THE MEN WHO SOLD THE WORLD' (Amazon Prime- 54")- The biggest financial disaster since the Great Depression and only a very few minor players received any jail time. "NINJA Loans'- 'No job, no income, no assets'.

We 8/15/18 Up 820am; overcast, clammy, and threatening. Rain predicted all day and tomorrow- none so far; 915am.
