Weekly Cleaning

Watched 'LIVE TWICE, LOVE ONCE' (Netflix). Corny and contrived, but somewhat watchable. A widowed Spanish math professor experiences the initial phases of dementia and decides that he must visit his first love. He hasn't seen her in over fifty years and his adult daughter, her cheating husband, and his plucky granddaughter are thrust into this silly melodrama that involves a road trip across Spain. I gave it 'One Thumb Up'...reluctantly.  Set and filmed in Valencia, Spain. Valencia is on the eastern coast of Spain. The island of Ibiza is about 135 miles east of the city in the Balearic Sea (part of the larger Mediterranean off the eastern coast of Spain). The road trip is to the Navarre area of Spain which is in Basque country (Bilbao, Spain). It's about 300 miles from Valencia.  

Watched 'ICONICITY' (Amazon Prime). It's a well written and beautifully shot documentary about the artists and their exhibits and installations surrounding the Salton Sea. This 'sea' is the result of an engineering accident during the attempt to reroute the Colorado River in 1905. Up until the 80's this was a kind of blue collar resort destination, but now the lake is evaporating and what remains is mud, decay, and an eclectic throng of diehard American folk artists.

***I noticed a sale at Diet Smoke for Acapulco Gold 200 mg/ 10 gummies for $64. I'm buying them far faster than I'm eating them because I'm afraid that the 'solid jolts' of 50 mg and above will be regulated. I'm sure that the manufacturers would rather sell in 10 or 20 mg doses because they would make a lot more money.

More 'AS YOU STOOD BY' (Netflix). I finished episode #5. Many of the details remain unclear, but it is a solid condemnation of domestic violence.

We 8/15/18 Up 820am; overcast, clammy, and threatening. Rain predicted all day and tomorrow- none so far; 915am. Still unseasonably warm with a mix of sun & clouds. Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80". A troubled teen and his young sister try to make a go of it on their farmstead dairy after their father dies. It's got a strange tone and far from an average 'coming of age' tale.
