Up 615am: Overcast with temps to mid 50's. [I noticed dense fog 930pm & continued through Thursday morning].

I wrapped the five gifts and prepared for a visit to Planet Fitness. They are closed tomorrow and today they shut down at noon. 

Xmas Resolution: Buy a decent bong that cools the smoke (filtered is better health wise) & is easy to clean; up to $100. The intensity of the dry herb vape is insufficient and I'll restrict usage to 'pick me ups'. 

8am: To  Planet Fitness...45"Cross, 45"Treadmill, 15"Recumbent Bike, 45"Cross; TWO HOURS AND 45 MINUTES;  watched 'TAXI DRIVER'- The theme of the film, "Wipe The Scum Off The Streets" is now a platform promise for the modern American 'Trumplican' Party. The film was better than I had remembered. The writing was exceptional and it's an honest and horrifying snapshot of The Big Apple as the optimism of the 60's faded into the nihilism of the 70's. ; with Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Albert Brooks, Peter Boyle, Harvey Keitel. Written by Paul Schrader & directed by Martin Scorsese. Nominated for 4 Oscars, 22 wins & 21 nominations. "94" Metascore and that's about on the nose; began FLEA  on RICK BEATO & this had to be one of the best guests Rick has ever interviewed. Flea is a national treasure and I'm glad that I own Flea's biography. 

Watched 'SOULEYMANE'S STORY' (Kanopy). An African man in his twenties has fled Guinea and lives a subsistence lifestyle in Paris as a harried bicycle food delivery worker. He is always worried that his status will be denied and the authorities will send him back to Guinea. The film feels almost like a documentary and he seems like a genuinely nice guy who is caught in an impossible situation. Although his life is grim to a fault, there are some unexpected small yet appreciated 'acts of kindness'. An example is when he is waiting to pick up an order the server gives him a piece of candy. A tiny gesture, but it shows that almost no life is so dire that nothing 'good' ever happens.

540pm: In the tub to begin 'BLUE CALHOUN' by REYNOLDS PRICE  and listening to LEE MORGAN- 'The Procrastinator'; GOLDEN PALOMINOS- 'DRUNK With Passion'/ Playlist'.

Began 'SCANDAL EVE' (Netflix). I shut it down 8 minutes into episode #2. The premise is a bit hard to believe. A famous Japanese film star has drinks with  a nineteen year old woman and later spends the night with her (no sex). This causes a major scandal in the mid two thousand and twenties?  This sounds like an incident from the 50's.

Watched 'MAGPIE' (Kanopy- borrowed 2 days ago).  It's basically a tale of 'Adultery & Revenge' although this isn't made clear until the last few minutes of the film. A wealthy couple live in a modern villa in the English countryside. He's a successful author, she is a housewife (she used to be in publishing) and their young daughter is co-starring in a big budget film that's being shot  near their home. Dad falls 'in lust' for the female star of the film, but his wife is several moves ahead. "69" Metascore and I would boost that to "80".
