Sa 8/31/19

Sa 8/31/19 Up 710am; living room PC had me 'restart' and it took no longer than normal. Will deal with this later since it shows that a couple of updates are 'pending'. Partly cloudy with temps to the upper 70's. Watched last loan of the month from Hoopla- 'ROAD TO PALOMA'. It's a little thin on plot and character development, but a real feast for the eyes. Two bikers riding through the mountains and desert near Needles, CA, and one of them is wanted for the killing of his mother's rapist and murderer; Jason Momoa (GAME OF THRONES) stars and directs; with Lisa Bonet and Robert Homer Mollohan. Got some music by SHOVEL & ROPE that was used in the film on Amazon Prime Music. Then watched 'LIVING IN OBLIVION' (Amazon Prime) A movie about the making of a movie; with Catherine Keener/ Steve Buscemi/ Dermot Mulroney. Saved 30" to watch later because I saw that the third disc of 'TRUE DETECTIVE' was only 2 hrs 30". So I...

Fr 8/30/19- Bluetooth Resolved!

Fr 8/30/19 Up 740am; cloudy and cooler- temps to upper 70's. Wrote up '52 PICK-UP' for the blog. Watched the last two episodes of 'TRUE DETECTIVE'- Season 2 on disc. The three cops unite to find what's behind the murders and the big land deal. Frank continues to run his clubs in an attempt to regain his previous position as a legitimate land developer. Then, 'BOX OF MOONLIGHT' (Amazon Prime) This is being dropped from Prime tomorrow and I wanted to see it again. Glad that I did! A man on a business trip is bored with his life and meets up with a kooky 'free-spirit' who lives in half of a house trailer in rural Tennessee. John Turturro/ Sam Rockwell/ Catherine Keener/ and a small role for Dermot Mulroney. 230pm: Biked to Wabash PO/ Planet Fitness. 45" Walk (MINDHUNTER). 45" Recumbent Bike (Read 'LIZZIE'/ THE BLACK KEYS). 45" Cross (MINDHUNTER). 30" Walk (GLOW). 30" Cross (OFF CAMERA). Home to pick up t...

Th 8/29/19- Bluetooth Problems Elantra

Th 8/29/19- Bluetooth Problems Elantra Up 710am; Partly sunny to mid 80's. Watched '15 MINUTES OF WAR' (Hoopla) Somali terrorists kidnap a school bus with 22 children on board near the border of Djibouti. A French anti-terrorist sharpshooter team is sent in from Paris, but their mission is not clear due to diplomatic interference. Some very fancy shooting when the sharpshooters open fire during the finale. 1045am: Called Hyundai West and they have someone who can reconnect the bluetooth in the Elantra. 1115am: Mowing the lawn then out to Hyundai West. Still problems starting the mower even though I am now following the directions. Finished cutting and raking in just over an hour.... Spoke to the guy across the street. He was planting grass in an area in front of his door where he had removed a large bush. We talked about the neighborhood, and 'The Winger Murder', and various other things for over a half hour! Creepy guy in a blue pickup was eyeing the v...

We 8/28/19- Contemporary Book Club at 6pm.

We 8/28/19- Contemporary Book Club at 6pm. Up 730am; sunny and beautiful- to only 79! Watched '66 & NOWHERE' (Amazon Prime)  Another strong Independent, but maybe bit too confusing. ...."On the run from the Chicago Mob, a down on his luck trumpet player hitchhiking to Hollywood falls into murder, money and mayhem with a mysterious femme fatale."  The ending was completely off base. An attempt to link this film to 'Chili Palmer' of 'GET SHORTY'??? Then the credits roll, and a random video where the 'femme fatale' is seen meeting with the killer a year earlier. But, the bluesy-jazz soundtrack was honestly superior. 1120am: began scanning the net about 'A GENTLEMAN FROM MOSCOW'. 120pm: In the Elantra to FitClub West, and then to the meeting. 45" Octane (SEVEN MOONS). 45" Walk (Reality TV). 45" Cross. 30" Walk. 30" Old Style Cross. 10" Recumbent Bike. Whirlpool/ Pool Lap. *****Bluetooth connecti...

Tu 8/27/19

Tu 8/27/19 Up 7am; cloudy to mostly sunny; to 80. Watched 'THE AMERICAN FACTORY' (Netflix) A Chinese billionaire buys an abandoned factory in Dayton, Ohio to manufacture auto windshields and glass products. The factory closed during the recession of 2008, and workers went from making $29 per hour to $14 per hour. But because there were no jobs in the area, the workers felt they were lucky because at least they had work. The film shows how world-wide corporate strategy is to roll back all worker's rights of the last seventy years in the name of profitability and efficiency. Following the film is a ten minute clip about The Obama's production company, 'Higher Ground'. This is the first release from their company, and it's an attempt to "help people understand something that they didn't understand before". Then, 'A BAG OF HAMMERS' (Amazon Prime) An unbelievable premise, yet a very sweet Independent about a young boy and his possibl...

Mo 8/26/19

Mo 8/26/19 Up 715am; Light rain when I awoke and more rain predicted for this evening- to 80. Watched 'THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN' (Amazon Prime) A blood drenched tale based on a short story by Clive Barker. A photographer (Bradley Cooper) follows a mysterious butcher late at night in NYC and learns that this man is butchering people to feed to an ancient race of flesh-eating creatures. In the end, the photographer becomes 'The Butcher'; with Vinnie Jones, Leslie Bibb, and Brooke Shields who I didn't recognize until I read the credits. Then, 'DISOBEDIENCE' (Amazon Prime) A woman left her Orthodox Jewish community years earlier, returns when she learns of the death of her rabbi father. She rekindles the love affair with the young woman that caused her rejection from the community; with Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams. 145pm: Writing the Weekly Wrap. After I sent the email I read in the living room chair and finished 'A GENTLEMAN FROM MOSCOW'  (...

Su 8/25/19

Su 8/25/19 Up 730am; cloudy and light rain when I awoke- to high 70's with mostly cloudy skies. Watched the last two episodes of disc one 'TRUE DETECTIVE'- Season One. This Season is not as compelling as Season 3, but still compelling. Three different story-lines, California Highway Patrol, local Vernon police, and California State Police, make the story a little too thin or diffused. The single arch of , 'What happened to the little girl and her brother', really focused Season 3. Then 'AN AMERICAN IN TEXAS' (Amazon Prime) Set on the eve of the first Gulf War in 1990, four guys in a rural Texas punk band dream of striking it big in California. Then, events change their plans- Not a bad Independent film. 130pm: Biked to FitClub West and dropped off the disc at the box next to Walgreens. On the machines by 150pm. 45" Octane (Talked with John 'the coach' the last ten minutes. I just might buy an air compressor. OFF CAMERA- Ryan Bingham). ...

Sa 8/24/19

Sa 8/24/19 Up 810am; overhead fan off, and no muscle cramps. I'll see if I can find a vitamin store that sells 'magnesium'. Plenty of sun with temps to the upper 70's. Ordered 'WHISKEY WHEN WE'RE DRY' (Barnes & Noble) Watched 'THE BELIEVER' (Amazon Prime) Some pretty scary anti-Jewish diatribes that resonate perfectly in The Age of Trump; with Ryan Gosling/ Billy Zane/ Theresa Russell/ Summer Phoenix. Watched the end of 'I STILL SEE YOU' (Amazon Prime) Bordering on silly; An 'event' near Chicago leaves thousands dead, but also 'Remnants'. It's as if a small residue or snippet of a person's life is on perpetual 'play' mode- a cinematic image of the person that repeats. Dermot Mulroney is the bad guy and he tries to kill the heroine (Bella Thorne) because he believes that this will resurrect his 'remnant' daughter. The film is a kind of ham-fisted reworking of the zombie or ghost genre. The ...

Fr 8/23/19

Fr 8/23/19 Up 7am; restless night- bad legs cramps kept waking me up. Sunny and pleasant with temps only to the upper 70's. Watched Netflix disc, 'IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK'. A beautiful love story about a man who is falsely accused of rape, sent to prison, and his wife has their baby. The scene in which she tells her parents and in-laws that she's pregnant is probably one of the rawest acting I've ever seen. I can't believe that this is the first film adaptation of James Baldwin's books. After the bonus features, I watched 'I STILL SEE YOU' (Amazon Prime). 1230pm: The film's not too bad, but I want to do a little reading (nap?) and then bike to Wabash PO/ Planet Fitness; 41" of the film left to see. Messed around with the MedLife website about my dental claim. What they paid and what they want are two different things. I wanted to send it in today, but will have to wait. So late that I drove to Wabash PO/ Planet Fitness, and on...

Th 8/22/19

Th 8/22/19 Up 810am; light rain falling, then cloudy to partly sunny with temps to low 80's. Dumped a lot of 'PHISH' on the phone from Amazon Watched 'AMERICAN HANGMAN' (Netflix) Donald Sutherland plays a judge who has been abducted and is held in an underground bunker. He has recently sentenced a man to death for the kidnapping and murder of a fourteen year old girl. The man was innocent because the judge's abductor admits to the crime. The interplay between the judge and his abductor is streamed live to give the public a chance to vote whether the judge and the actual killer pay with their lives- Not a bad film, but not great. Then watched 'LEMON' (Amazon Prime) A documentary about 'Lemon' Anderson, a Puerto Rican, 3 time felon who turns his life around with poetry. First, at a New York Youth Theater, then The NYC Public Theater, and finally a collaboration with producer, Spike Lee. This guy is so much better than a rapper. He's a t...

We 8/21/19 Dental Checkup- 320pm

We 8/21/19 Dental Checkup- 320pm Up 715am; Cloudy, cooler, and rain to begin early this afternoon- to low 80's. I got a text from Xfinity saying that the Internet was restored at 210am this morning. Worked fine and checked on Speed Test and I'm getting 71 Mbps! Watched 'HEADHUNTER' (Hoopla) The biggest Norwegian film of all time. An executive who 'head hunts' for top managerial talent uses his position as a cover for his art thefts. Lots of twists and turns, but a very compelling film. It looks like it will be made into a mini-series for HBO. Then, 'NICK' (Amazon Prime) An English film shot on the Spanish-French border. A small town female cop is forced to take in her 13 year old step-brother whom she had only met once. He discovers a killer in the town, but no one believes him until the last frame of the film. Not as bad as the User Reviewers claimed. Then episode #4 of 'PATRIOT' (Amazon Prime) 230pm: PC is 'Off' and will driv...

Tu 8/20/19- Staab/ Internet Outage at Midnight

Tu 8/20/19- Staab 1pm/ Internet Outage at Midnight Up 730am; overcast and very humid. Strong thunderstorms predicted to begin about noon; to mid 80's. Called Staab, but Kari Jones was not in, and I said that I would call back and cancelled this afternoon's appointment due to the heavy storms. I just want a simple statement that I can file with my will that I want the cheapest cremation with absolutely no frills. And, I will pay for nothing in advance. Watched 'CBGB' (Amazon Prime) A bio-pic of the legendary punk rock venue in NYC. It missed the mark and completely failed to reflect any of the artistry of the performers. The tone was all off, yet still very watchable. Then watched 'WELCOME TO FOREVER' (Amazon Prime) - A twelve minute short film about a 'malfunctioning virtual person' who is terminated, and the 'terminator' saves the guy's dog. The, 'ALL ROADS LEAD' (Amazon Prime) A very compelling 'Faux- True- Crime' ...

Mo 8/19/19

Mo 8/19/19 Up 7am; Blistering hot and Humid, temps to 90 with 'real feel' to triple digits. Watched the last four hours of 'TRUE DETECTIVE'- Season 3. Finished about 1pm. Whatta marathon, but truly an amazing season! I ordered three discs of Season 2 from Netflix. A woman from Staab knocked on the door to set up a meeting. I wanted to do it now, but she didn't have the materials with her. Ever heard of a phone? We'll meet again at Staab tomorrow at 1pm. Wrote the 'Weekly Wrap'. Too hot to bike, so I'll drive to the 'Y' around 315pm. But when I opened the garage door I decided to take out the ladder and trim some of the low hanging branches on the gumball tree. Everything, back and front, is looking spiffy, and the lawn hasn't been mowed in over a month. I drove to the 'Y' and was informed that they were closed for cleaning. The fucking app said it was 'Cleaning Day', but failed to mention that the joint was clo...

Su 8/18/19

Su 8/18/19 Up 720am; cloudy and possibility of showers early this afternoon (Didn't Happen); to mid 80's. Had some trouble accessing Xfinity Stream. I had to 'Allow Flash', but I finally got it. They are offering Free HBO/ Cinemax today and tomorrow. Watched 'BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY' (HBO) A fantastic film and well worth all the accolades. Rami Malek was great, and I wonder what the film would have been like if Sacha Baron Cohen? Then I checked out 'TRUE DETECTIVE' (HBO) There are three seasons, and I started with Season I, but it seemed familiar. I think I watched it when I first began Xfinity. Then began Season III, and I am Hooked! Watched three episodes and hope to finish the season before HBO access ends tomorrow. I wish I had known about the 'free week' earlier. 345pm: I had planned to drive to LA Fitness, but when I opened the garage door I decided to trim the tree in the front with overhanging dead branches. Then decided to hit Planet...

SA 8/17/19- I TRIMMED THE LILAC TREE

SA 8/17/19- I TRIMMED THE LILAC TREE Up 745am; Drenching rain just as I awoke. Thunder, but no severe downpour; 70 early to low 80's and a moderate  to good chance for rain late this afternoon; Never Happened. Wrote up 'SELLING OUT'- Dan Wakefield for the blog. Watched Netflix disc, 'LIZZIE' Although only based on facts, the film provides a possible explanation for the '1892 Borden Murders'. Lizzie's involvement with Bridget (Maggie), the maid shows how the crime might have been done; with Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart. Then a sixteen minute film on Amazon Prime called 'EXTINCTION' Muslims have been banned in the US, yet one hides out as a ranch hand, and one day he is discovered. 1230pm: bike to FitClub West and dropped the disc in the box next to the Walgreens on the way. 45" Octane (OFF CAMERA- Chris Messina). 45" Walk (Reality TV all workout). 45" Cross. 30" Walk. 30" Old Style Cross. Home to cut off...

Fr 8/16/19- TREE TRIMMING CONTINUES/ENDS

Fr 8/16/19- TREE TRIMMING CONTINUES/ENDS Up 645am; cloudy, temps to around 80. Rain in the forecast for the weekend beginning early tomorrow morning. Two Nelson trucks pulled up at 735am, and then they vanished at 8am and reappeared at 830am and slowly eased into it. Broke for lunch around 11am. Watched Netflix disc, 'THE LITTLE STRANGER' A young doctor ingratiates himself into an upper class Irish family who live in the decrepit and crumbling- 'HUNDRED YEARS HOUSE'. The film effortlessly blends elements of the supernatural, class consciousness, mystery, and even a love story; with Charlotte Rampling. Then I picked a Mongolian (sub-titled) film because of the noise of the chipper. 'THE GLADIOLUS' (Amazon Prime) "Well-educated private school principal accidentally murders her daughter's not so good boyfriend and about-to-retire detective risks his career to help her get away with the murder." Not that good of a film (I was nodding off) and I h...

Th 8/15/19- Dental Checkup; 1110am****RESCHEDULED**** CWLP TREE TRIMMING

Th 8/15/19- Dental Checkup; 1110am****RESCHEDULED**** CWLP tree trimming Up 720am; partly sunny and cool with temps to about 80. Dentist called to reschedule. My hygienists is sick, so my new appointment is We 8/21 at 320pm. I didn't want to go today anyway. I picked 'CHAPTER 27' because it was short, but I guess I'll make this a Double Feature Morning. Watched 'CHAPTER 27' (Amazon Prime) Jared Leto is phenomenal as Mark David Chapman, the murderer of John Lennon. There are 26 chapters in the novel, 'CATCHER IN THE RYE' and Chapman's room in the YMCA was on the 27 floor; with Lindsay Lohan. Leto gained 67 lbs for the role. 1025am: CWLP workers said that they would be trimming the trees in the back that are near the power lines. It could take the rest of today and tomorrow. Long overdue, and I wonder what it will look like when the job is completed. I went out and asked if the homeowners would be charged, but it's just part of the service ...

We 8/14/19- Amazon Music Down For An Hour!

We 8/14/19 Up 740am; blue skies and temps to just about 80. Watched 'HET VONNIS' (Dutch; 'The Verdict') (Hoopla) Another terrific 'Revenge Film', but focuses on the Belgian judicial system more than the actual crimes. A woman is brutally beaten to death while her husband is gassing up the car across the street. He follows his wife into the store, and is kicked unconscious (he's in a coma for three weeks). His seven year old daughter crosses the street to help her parents, and is killed by a passing car. The killer is arrested, but is soon freed due to a 'procedural error'. Under Belgium law this renders all evidence against the perp inadmissible. Weeks go by, and the aggrieved husband gets a gun and kills his wife's murderer. He is brought to trial and tries to force the system to absolve him. The closing arguments for both sides are nearly equally compelling. The guy gets off, but you can't help but wonder if justice was really served. ...

Tu 8/13/19

Tu 8/13/19 Deleted the goddamn Notepad entry for today and had to rewrite!!!! Up 746am; before coffee I dragged several limbs to the curb. Pine branches from the back and a few oak branches from the vacant house next door. Watched '14 CAMERAS' (Netflix) Creepy slum landlord secretly video tapes people at his vacation rental homes. He kidnaps some and murders some others. Tone and mood trump plot or common sense. Paid the credit card and realized that I have enough money in the Heartland account to make the payment without bothering the available cash in the Ameriprise account. Watched, 'THE HEYDAY OF THE INSENSITIVE BASTARDS' (Netflix). Based on seven short stories by Robert Boswell. Some were better than others, but none were standouts. The most interesting aspect was such a star-studded cast for such a lackluster production; with Mathew Modine, James Franco, Kristen Wiig, Jimmy Kimmel, Keir Gilchrist, and Natalie Portman. Wrote a reply to an email from Jan...

Mo 8/12/19

Mo 8/12/19 Last night while I was in the bathtub I was listening to YouTube through the phone on the 'Baby Boom' speaker when somehow it connected to the Bose speaker bar on the living room PC. I got everything back, but there seems to be no way to turn off the speaker from the phone- Seems ridiculous. Up 740am; Lots of rain fell last night, and more predicted for today and tonight. Also, heat indexes are way up with lots of humidity to make it feel even more uncomfortable. The AC is 'On'. While on the PC before the 'Morning Movie' this morning, the computer shutoff and said it needed to be restarted. Then, it went into the 'pixelated screen'. I did a manual 'Off/On' and everything is back to normal. Watched 'SIN'S KITCHEN' (Amazon Prime) This is a very small Independent film that I picked because it starred Jeffrey Wright. Set in the Mojave Desert and shows how evil can connect with several random strangers; a drifter (Jeffre...

Su 8/11/19

Su 8/11/19 Up 730am; it appears that we got a trace of rain sometime early this morning. Cloudy, with temps in the high 80's. A real cloud burst about 730pm; probably a half inch at least. More rain for late tonight and early tomorrow morning. Wrote up 'THE STUDIO'- John Gregory Dunne for the blog. Heard a member of MAROON 5 talk about his solo album on NPR, I put several of the band's albums on my Amazon Music; Neo-Soul? I'll give it a go. Began, 'LUCKY STARS GO PLACES' (Amazon Prime)- A bad choice. An Asian 'Chop-Socky' film that was too painful to watch. Watched, 'MIDDLE MEN' (Amazon Prime)  A very engaging film that dealt with the beginnings of the online porn industry. The title refers to a billing company that connects the user to the distributor of a product. It was the porn industry that first utilized the internet to pay for a service via a credit card. This ability revolutionized the international market place; with Luke Wil...

Sa 8/10/19

Sa 8/10/19 Up 720am; partly sunny with temps to the high 80's. No rain in sight. Watched Netflix disc, 'I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW' A very different take on the 'Post-Apocalyptic Film Genre'. Peter Dinklage plays a loner who believes that he is the last man on the planet and is quite content with his predicament. He feels that he was only lonely when his town of 1,600 was alive and well. He maintains the local library (where he used to work the night shift) and methodically buries bodies in the town, and is quite satisfied until a chatty teenager, Elle Fanning, shows up. The last reel is a bit of a stretch- Paul Giacometti and Charlotte Gainsborough roll into town from out west, and claim to be Fanning's character's parents. Shot mostly in Hastings-on-the-Hudson, NY and in the last reel someplace that could have been Sun City, AZ. The next episode of 'ANGELS OVER AMERICA' (Amazon Prime) The scenes with Pacino and Jeffrey Wright are the best! ...

Fr 8/9/19

Fr 8/9/19 Up 710am; more heat and sun with temps to 90. Watched Netflix disc, 'THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA'- A return of the classic horror film. The premise is that a beautiful Mexican woman marries, has children, and then discovers that her husband is cheating. She drowns her children to get back at him. Now, as a malevolent ghost, she searches the Earth to find children to drown; Linda Cardellini stars. Then 'KING OF NEW YORK' (Amazon Prime) Ultra-stylized festival of violence; Abel Ferrara directs, with Christopher Walken, David Caruso, Laurence Fishburne, Wesley Snipes, Giancarlo Esposito, Steve Buscemi. Christopher Walken leaves prison to resume his role as the drug kingpin of NYC. He's part Robin Hood and part mass murderer with style, a sense of humor, and a flair for outrageous dance moves. Watched some Jim Marrs YouTube video about Remote Viewing, and then the computer is 'Off'- 2pm. Reading and then a bike ride to Wabash PO and Planet Fitness ...

Th 8/8/19

Th 8/8/19 Up 730am; before coffee I watered the front flower bed. It's getting pretty dry and no rain in sight for the next several days. Sunny and temps to about 90. Wrote up 'THE HIT'- David Baldacci for the blog. Watched 'A VIGILANTE' (Amazon Prime) Olivia Wilde plays a victim of domestic abuse who becomes an 'avenging angel'. A slow and measured pace and the film intentionally differs from the Revenge Genre films of Charles Bronson or Clint Eastwood in that this film seeks to examine the after-effects or fallout of violence more than the acts themselves. The character of Sadie is not really a heroine because she's just too damaged or even unhinged although her actions are righteous and worthy; A real surprise of a film! Then, 'NATURAL SELECTION' (Amazon Prime) Robbie Pickering is a first time director, but he scores big! A devout Christian housewife learns her husband has been visiting a sperm bank for a couple of decades instead of f...

We 8/7/19

We 8/7/19 Up 720am. Even before coffee, I went out back and cut down the weeds in the 'Santa-Monk' flower bed. I put the weeds in the 'blue can' because today is 'pickup day'. Sunny, humid, with temps to about 90. Watched 'MANUSCRIPTS DON'T BURN' (Hoopla) A most unusual 'hit-man film'. Two regular, working class guys target writers and intellectuals in contemporary Iran under the command of a sinister controller. One of the guys has a son that needs hospital treatment, yet the compensation for his 'wet work' doesn't seem to get into his bank account. " A lacerating and slow-burning thriller filmed in a frigid palate of blues and greys, Manuscripts Don't Burn is perhaps the most subversive and incendiary j'accuse lodged against an authoritarian regime since the fall of the Soviet Union". Then, the next 'ANGELS IN AMERICA' (Amazon Prime) Jeffrey Wright, as Pacino's razor-sharp nurse, steals th...

Tu 8/6/19

Tu 8/6/19 Up 740am; some rain early this morning before I awoke, then humid and upper 80's. After watching 'YOU DON'T KNOW JACK' last week, I wanted to see Al Pacino's portrayal of Roy Cohen. This morning I learned that it was a TV series called 'ANGELS IN AMERICA' and is available on Amazon Prime. 'ANGELS IN AMERICA' (Amazon Prime) Watched the first three episodes- Pacino is phenomenal, and the rest of the cast includes Mary-Louise Parker, Patrick Wilson, Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson. 145pm: on the bike to FitClub West. 45" Octane (Listened to The Mueller Report Podcast). 45" Walk (Reality TV All Workout). 45" Cross. 30" Walk. 30" Old Style Cross. Home to read for an hour and listen to PROFESSOR LONGHAIR. Then got in the Elantra and went to Fairhills/ County Market for two fifteen packs of 'Stones'. In the tub with LESLIE WEST'S MOUNTAIN/ MISSION OF BURMA and read more 'THE HIT'. 'MIKE NI...

Mo 8/5/19

Mo 8/5/19 Up 730am; sunny, to 90. A 30% chance of rain early tomorrow morning. I watered the front flower beds during last night's videos, and will hold off mowing the lawn. It's still too dry regardless of tomorrow's rain. Watched 'THE RED SEA DIVING RESORT' (Netflix)  It's about a secret operation by the Israeli government to smuggle Ethiopian refugees in Sudan to Israel in the late 1970's. The Israeli government bought and operated the Sudanese 'Red Sea Diving Resort' as a cover for the operation. Based on a true event, yet the tone of the film jumps from light and breezy to almost fake inspirational. A documentary about the real event would have made a better film. I called State Farm and everything is in order and I'll pick up my new card on the way to the 'Y'. Then I wrote a reply to Janny. They are still having problems with Melissa about the over-payment to Elsie's House. Watched about half of 'OTHERHOOD', and ...

Su 6/4/19

Su 6/4/19 Up 715am; sunny and warmer- to 90. Watched 'AMERICAN BRED' (Amazon Prime) Man is naked and beaten bloody in a restaurant meat-locker. The undercover cop is really the son of the Don. Mom gave him up while her husband was in prison and lied that she had a miscarriage. 'The Shipment' was people that the family was smuggling in from Sicily. An interesting Independent. Then 'ROLAND KLICK- THE HEART IS A HUNGRY HUNTER'(Amazon Prime)  I'd sure like to see some of this guy's films, but they are all unavailable. He doesn't even have a page at Wikipedia. Then 'AFTER PORN ENDS' (Netflix) A documentary about retired porn stars. Watched half, and will finish the rest tonight. 130pm: biked to FitClub West. 45" Octane (finished the OFF CAMERA with the guy from Harry Potter, and then listened to more of the Mueller Report Podcast). 45" Walk. (Reality TV All Workout). 45" Cross. 30" Walk. 30" Old Style Cross. ...

Sa 8/3/19

Sa 8/3/19 Up 7am; partly cloudy with temps to the mid 80's. Watched Netflix disc, 'A STAR IS BORN' Bradley Cooper directs and stars with Lady Gaga; also Sam Elliott, Andrew Dice Clay, and Dave Chappelle. From screenplays written in 1954 and 1976. The first written by Moss Hart and the 1976 version written by John Gregory Dunne and Joan Didion. This version (co-written by Bradley Cooper) might be a bit far-fetched and slightly overly romantic, but never veers into corniness. I liked it! Then '4 LITTLE GIRLS' (Amazon Prime) Spike Lee's 1997 documentary about the 1963 bombing of 'The 16th Street Baptist Church' in Birmingham, Alabama that killed four young black girls. The film consists of interviews with the families of the girls and news footage of the civil-rights movement. 215pm: buckets of water for the front flowers. I caught the mailman and gave him the Netflix disc, so it's to LA Fitness today.  On the machines at LA Fitness just befor...

Fr 8/2/19- Left groceries in cart

Fr 8/2/19 Up 650am; more blue skies and temps to mid 80's. I put five more yard lights in the back lawn. One didn't work when I pulled the tag, but I'll let them soak in the sun and check tonight. Watched Netflix disc 'THE MYTH OF THE AMERICAN SLEEPOVER'  One night at the end of summer in suburban Detroit- A boy looks for a girl that caught his eye in the supermarket, a college student travels to a local college to reconnect with two female twins that he had a crush on in high school, and two girls leave their sleepover to go to a swimming party at the lake. Surprisingly good! ...About fifteen minutes into the film the color became pixelated and computer froze. Seems OK now (815am). Maybe it just needed to update. Then 'YOU DON'T KNOW JACK' (Amazon Prime) Al Pacino is terrific as 'Dr. Death'; with Susan Sarandon, Brenda Vaccaro, John Goodman, and Danny Huston. 130pm: Put a few buckets of water on the backyard flowers. Then biked to W...

Th 8/1/19

Th 8/1/19 Up 710am; More perfect summer weather. Plenty of sun and temps to very low 80's and low humidity. Watched 'THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS' (Netflix) Based on a non-fiction book about America's attempt to weaponize psychic/ paranormal research only this is a comedy; with Jeff Bridges, George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey. Then 'TRAMPS' (Netflix) A well done, low budget Independent about two young people who fall for each other during a botched 'bag exchange'.
